A tale that seems all too common are bands or artists that drop one or two bangers and then seemingly disappear off the face of the Earth. This list showcases more examples of this kind of phenomenon.

1 – Anita Ward

Anita Ward was only really in the public eye for one song, but that song made huge waves. The song, “Ring My Bell” is a disco classic from the late 70s which hit number one in many charts. Anita ward dropped the album containing “Ring My Bell”, but failed to carry on the hype and interest from listeners. The second album released contained a slightly lesser known hit “Don’t Drop My love”, which still made it to the top 100 but showed a decline. Currently, Ward is releasing remixes, remasters and new music on an irregular schedule.

2 – The Hoosiers

The Hoosiers had a fantastic record in the mid 2000s with tracks that hit the public ear in the right way. Mainly, their debut album “The Trick To Life”, containing songs such as “Goodbye Mr A” and “Worried About Ray”. They made a good name for themselves but having left three years between their first and second album, the momentum was lost somewhat. The Hoosiers are still active, touring and releasing music, most recently a “Greatest Hit(s)” album.

3 – Carly Rae Jepsen

We all know the song, for better or worse, that plagued the internet in the early 2010s. “Call Me Maybe” was everywhere in 2012 and 2013, and was one of the first songs that was fully integrated with meme culture on the internet. Since the slowing down of the popularity, Carly has continued the music career, and has done really well. After seemingly disappearing for a little while, her career picked back up again, opening for Katy Perry and releasing new music.

Another artist that followed a similar theme to Carly Rae Jepsen but didn’t have quite the same outcome was LMFAO. Coming out with the hit “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sorry For Party Rocking” that was everywhere and maintained that status in a lot of places. The comedy of coming into the spotlight with one album called “Party Rock” and the second and final one called “Sorry For Party Rocking” is refreshingly apparent. However, in 2012 the two split from each other and attempted their own thing for a while. Unfortunately, neither has done anything for a fair few years now, and it is hard to know if they’ll return.

5 – Chase & Status

Chase & Status are a fairly common household name, releasing hits like “Count On Me” and “Blind Faith”. After a short period after their main popularity, they started releasing new styles and genres. Unfortunately, despite still going and releasing music, the interest has fizzled out and despite being successful, it has been a bit of a drop off in later years. They have most recently released the album “What Came Before”.

6 – Taio Cruz

Taio Cruz had a huge few years in the early 2010s, releasing “Dynamite” and “Break Your Heart”. Hitting the top of the charts, and continuing the popularity with his next album. However, it can’t always last forever. After the TY.O album, Taio Cruz seemingly stopped making regular music. Opting for leaving albums behind and only releasing sparse singles. Most recently the single “2020”, however, with mental health issues stemming from social media, he has been quiet since.

7 – Rizzle Kicks

Dropping out of nowhere with “Down with the Trumpets”, Rizzle Kicks soon became a big name and a huge success. Selling out headline tours from the get go, they showed huge promise right from the inception. However, it didn’t take long for things to start to go downhill, despite releasing popular music, and keeping the success, the two started doing other projects. Their most recent release was in 2016, but since then, they have been in television and film, and Jordan Stephens is still releasing music under the artist name “Wildhood”.

8 – Susan Boyle

After appearing on Britain’s Got Talent, Susan Boyle quickly gained widespread appreciation. Famously singing “I Dreamed a Dream” and stunning audiences with her talent, Susan released albums of covers and went on tour. Slowly fading to the land of Christmas songs with the likes of Michael Bublé, Boyle attempted to push back into the cover albums, with diminishing returns. Although the fame has somewhat gone, Susan Boyle still releases music and features in tv shows from time to time.

9 – Klaxons

The insanely popular song “Golden Skans” shot Klaxons to fame in the late 00s, but where did they go? After the release of the album containing the hit, “Myths Of The Near Future”, Klaxons struggled to reach that level again. Hitting a high so early and so hard meant that, even though the next two albums were good, they couldn’t hold the interest of fans. Unfortunately for the band, during 2014, they announced that the last few tours they had planned was going to be the last headline tour, and have not done anything musically since. However a few of the members are working on other projects.

10 – Mika

In 2007, Mika burst into the scene with the album “Life In Cartoon Motion” which contained timeless classics like “Grace Kelly” and “Relax, Take It Easy”. Since then, Mika has released many other albums, on a pretty consistent timing. Unfortunately, none of them hit the same levels as the debut album. Aside from music, Mika has been doing a lot of other things, such as judging on X Factor Italia and hosting Eurovision 2022. Mika has had a very successful career in many avenues, despite hitting such a high peak early on.
