Live Review : The Slow Readers Club – Manchester Apollo Theatre 14/09/18
3500, yes THREE AND HALF THOUSAND humans jammed into Manchester’s iconic Apollo theatre turned out to see their own lads take to the stage and announce they are no longer fucking about.
This was a landmark moment for the band, a springboard into 2019 like no other.
Yeah it was a pain in the arse to get to the bar and £20 for 4 cans of San Miguel but as music fans we have to let that slip and concentrate on the music.
Build A Tower, the bands latest album which hit number 18 in the album charts, showed that their hard work over the last few years has really payed off. Aaron also informed us that the band are leaving the day jobs on the 21st and going full time with the band. It takes bollocks that, and I applaud their decision.
The band opened with Lunatic, the first single from Build a Tower and you instantly are taken back by how the band look at home on the big stage. Frontman Aaron Starkie’s confidence was there to see and it really suited him. He stood strong and delivered an outstanding vocal performance. “Readers” chants rang through the old venue and made for a special atmosphere.
Reyt Good Road Trip Series 2 : Episode 2 with The Slow Readers Club We joined the lads for a drive round Manchester talking all things Slow Readers and the build up to the new album.
The set continued, stand out tunes delivered with full confidence. Jim was having a blast you could just tell on his lil face. One More Minute, Plant The Seed, Cavalcade all came and passed with rapturous applause.
