Ambivalence - Rosemary Road

Ambivalence “Rosemary Road” – Single Review

Four Piece Manchester band, Ambivalence is certainly a name you need to listen out for. With Rosemary Road being their first recorded single, it’s a great debut from this upcoming band, and it hopefully won’t be the last single we hear from them. There is nothing ‘ambivalent’ about them, it’s just pure class.

From the second Rosemary Road starts, it is obvious that it is high energy. It has a guitar pattern that creates a crunchy, catchy riff and the whole composition just sounds very crisp. Its components are instantly hard to ignore.

The chorus, which is obviously always the focal part of the song, manages to sound both subtle and like a stand out. It sounds like it could be building up to something bigger, but also sounds like the main attraction. Either way, it’s definitely undeniably catchy.

The choppy instrumentation, how it cuts in and out throughout, also makes the track feel punchier, which is impressive in a song that already packs a punch from the get go.

And then there is the instrumental section, which is a decent chunk of the track, as it is quite lengthy, but just the right length to prove its place in the song. It’s sort of split in half, the first having a noodle-y guitar and then the guitar doing what it has been doing the whole time, just more varied. The drums get some spotlight too, highlighting that signature energy yet again. The band have their talent on full display during this time.

Rosemary Road feels somewhat simple, particularly in terms of the repetition of the lyrics- which makes it easy to remember– but the depth to the song generally means that there is a complexity to the overall product. Even if you aren’t entirely sure what makes it, you can hear that it is a track brimming with excellence.

It has a big sound to it, which means that the band could have ended with a huge build up. But it doesn’t end with any flashiness, instead just reaching what feels like a natural point to conclude. The perfect place to leave you wanting more and pressing repeat. Or at least that’s what I did.
