WAM AND AFTERALL GIG

ATLAS HEADLINE THE PEER HAT! – WHAT WENT DOWN?

We Are Manchester joined forces with After All Music for a special charity event to start the year. On Saturday at the Peer Hat, funds were raised for the Alzheimer’s Society and Musicians Against Homelessness. Ruth Murray and Owen Meikle-Williams created something very special here.

The first act to play was Molly Andrew, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Manchester. Molly began work during lockdown and she has just released an EP showcasing her original songs, recorded at Assembly Point. Molly’s performance showed both vulnerability and strength and we can’t wait to see what she does next!

The Click Clacks delivered a set of fast paced songs, full of energy. Delivered by one angry Irishman, the kind boggles at the volume of songs delivered in such short set.

Emmet’s frenetic energy completely was really well received by the crowd. Thoroughly entertaining.

25th hour are a female fronted an alternative rock band with a bag load of infectious melodies. Vocalist Jade whipped the crowd into submission and was thoroughly engaging. It was clear to see the audience had a lot of love for this band.

High school friends Atlas have gone from bedrooms to festivals in only 12 months, performing with confidence and artistry expected of a band with a much longer history.

It was clear they had a lot of support as they delivered a highly entertaining set. They showcased a mixture of their own tracks and some quite surprising choices for covers from decades before these plucky lads were born, from The Beatles, The Spin Doctors to The Roses. We would’ve possibly liked to have seen a couple more of their own tracks played live, if they have any so early in their journey, but we would definitely recommend seeing them!

As a last minute addition, a spoken word poet, Manchester Cinderella joined the event and delivered several beautifully touching poems for the crowd early on in the evening. This added an extra layer of fun to the event and helped create a supportive atmosphere.

It was clear that Ruth and Owen are passionate about music and the choices they made for their charities. Ruth had her own experience of Altzeimers and dementia and was amazed by the response. It felt like a massive achievement for these two and we would recommend supporting their events in the future!
