BARENAKED LADIES LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

Canadian rockers Barenaked Ladies returned to Manchester last night with a rip-roaring set of their finest work. The four piece have gained a huge UK following over the last thirty years with their feel good rock and lively on stage persona which is infectious as it is endearing.

The Albert Hall was awash with Hawaiian shirts (in tribute to the band who are known for their colourful dress sense). The band arrived on stage to a very warm Manchester welcome, with lead singer Ed later pausing to tell the crowd of his love for this city. Ed lamented how some of his favourite shows had been here. Many bands often say his but you could tell that Manchester held sentimental meaning for these guys.

“The old Apartment’ was the first song and it is known to be a fan favourite. The strong start was upheld all evening and they sounded stronger than ever. If there is a band on this planet who is guaranteed to make you feel amazing it is these four guys. The warmth and genuine love of performing comes across immediately.

The highlights of the evening were mid way through when the band launched into the sing-a-long classics ‘One Week’ and ‘If I Had a Million Dollars’. I am sure that some UK fan became fans after the band’s song was used as the theme tune for American sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory’ (in my opinion the show’s only redeeming feature!).

Having checked the setlist from previous UK shows, I was surprised to see my personal favourite ‘It’s All Been Done’ emitted from the line up, but tonight this Manchester audience go that in the encore which was a perfect end to this fun-filled evening. See below how to catch these guys on tour and give yourselves a well deserved serotonin boost!
