BASHT PLAY MANCHESTER – READ ALL ABOUT IT HERE!

Last night, Basht took to the stage at the Deaf Institute, one of Manchester’s most intimate grassroots venues. Known for its iconic wallpaper, quirky designs and buzzing atmosphere, the Deaf Institute is one of Manchester’s most cherished venues and is the perfect place to show the best new and forthcoming talent.

Support act The North brought buckets of energy to the stage with their gritty, punk-inspired sound. From the chipped telecasters to the heavy baselines, the crowd was engrossed in their new sound. They finished with ‘Soundtrack Your Soul’, encapsulating the spirit of the performance as they left the stage.

Following the release of their new EP, ‘Bitter and Twisted’, Basht might be one of the most exciting bands at the moment. With a loyal following and their grungy, raw sound, Basht are a promising name in the indie-rock scene.

Amidst their technical issues, the band delivered a captivating set, engaging the audience almost immediately. The crowd joined them in chanting to their song ‘Vain’, as frontman Jack Leavey beckoned them on further, complementing the monstrous, bellowing lyrics.

A standout moment was their performance of ‘Stockholm’, a heartfelt, yearning song that questions the love in a toxic relationship, recognising it may be something more sinister and inescapable. This was reflected in the lustful ache and wild expression.

The band came to life when performing their older songs, having proven their success as familiar territory. ‘Tomorrow’ was a fan favourite. The audience longfully looked on, lost in the hazy, mellow verses and electrifyingly cathartic riffs. Then moving on to ‘Wild Horses’, Leavey’s piercing eyes and gnashing grin reflected the emotional nuances and liberation in the lyrics. The guitar tremors and deep bassline had the audience clinging on for more. The enthusiasm was followed by ‘Gone Girl’ as the crowd jumped, cheered and danced to the rhythms.

As the night came to a close, they ended on the most anticipated song from their new EP, ‘Sirens’. The band thanked the crowd, saying it was one of their loudest nights yet. Ahead of festival season, Basht delivered a very strong set and is definitely one to look out for on the lineups.
