BOWLING FOR SOUP LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester was treated to a double header of American pop-punk madness last week. Bowling for Soup teamed up with Less Than Jake to perform two sold out shows at Manchesters Academy One.

Less than Jake put on an electrifying show getting the crowd warmed up with their impressive back catalogue of classic hits. The Academy stage was full to the brim with pyrotechnics (including an unexpected toilet roll cannon that covered the entire pit and front row, leaving us slightly bemused and entangled!).

Less than Jake certainly put on a show with a mixture of instruments including an impressive turn from Buddy Suchaub on Trombone bringing in the ska element to the noise. Frontman Chris DeMakes got the loudest cheers of the evening when the band launched into fan favourite ‘The Rest of My Life’. The crowd were now suitably warmed up for what was to come next.

A five minute countdown began as the stage handlers transformed the set into a bar scene. This patient audience were becoming a little angsty as the timer began, and enthusiastically joined in with the countdown. A DJ kept the crowd entertained and on zero the band entered, with frontman Jaret Reddick all smiles as he shouted out the expected ‘Hello Manchester’ before diving straight into ‘Emily’.

The band shared some fairly low level but highly entertaining humour which the long time fans no doubt expected. These guys have been putting on shows for thirty years now and it was clear that some of this audience had been with them on this journey from day one.

Both band are on tour together to celebrate thirty years since they formed and I really do urge you to catch them as it was a thoroughly entertaining evening of great musician and showmanship that only certain 90’s bands can bring.
