Bursting from Sheffield’s already buzzing music scene, where indie, rock, alt and pop come from a mixed bag of legends, big names and grassroots, among them is The Kellows.
They’re a young band, and seem keen to make their mark on the famous South Yorkshire cities competitive music scene. This track says it means business from the get go, a slow fade of a guitar and then immediately turning it into a high-octane, attention grabbing song with a punchy backing track.
Listening to them, you wouldn’t think they were all 17-year-olds (yes really!) they have musical talent WAY beyond their years and their instrumental talent alone is incredible. The drumbeat is incredibly fast-paced, infectious and keeps it all tying together, the different tempos and twists and turns give it the space it needs to showcase their talent.
But whilst the actual listening is a euphoric experience in itself, the actual lyrics and songwriting really blew me away – not only do they show incredibly brilliant lyrical depth, but on top of their talent instrumentally, their maturity within their music and lyrics really shines out, and there a beautiful complexity within all of it, but they still keep this really youthful charisma.
The vocals are also incredible, whilst I do think they do need to be a bit more centre-stage, it isn’t a huge deal, the vocals keep up with the energy of the track and still keep you hooked in whilst telling a story, it really is beautiful.
I need to hear this live, if it’s even half as good as the track and how I felt listening to it, it’ll still be incredible, what a bloody good track, well in.
