Stoke-On-Trent indie outfit Camens begin the buildup to next years second album with this new single, Anything To Win. The first taster of what to expect from Los Karma, due out in February ’27, it hints at an exciting shift in sound from their previous works.
Moving away from the more melodic indie sound which ran through their first album, anything to win incorporates a edgier, more in-your-face approach. Whilst still retaining a glittery chorus with the anthemic qualities of their previous releases, the verses definitely break from that. A more fluid sound focussing less on melody give the whole track a much more exciting feel, dragging it clear from becoming simply a rinse and repeat from their past pieces.
Quite aptly for a song which see’s them push their sound to new places, Anything To Win is a track that’s message is rooted in the cut throat world that is the music industry.
A reflective piece as much as it is forward looking, it both examines what it has taken for them to get here, and how determined they are to kick on. Described by frontman Scott Powell, it is “A refusal to quit. It’s part of our story, and we’re done asking permission. We’re just going for it”.
This is undeniably Camens biggest attempt to carve out a real pathways for themselves to establish themselves as one of the up-and-comers of the scene.
What’s come before has been strong enough, but this feels like the right direction for them to take to stand out for what has become an increasingly concentrated market. They are ready to step out from the crowd, and this is a big step in doing so.
