Who are Cargos? Where are you from? And what’s the backstory, how did you get together?
We are a 5-piece band based in Sheffield comprised of: Archie: Vocals & Guitar, Evan: Lead Guitar, Zak: Drums, Connor: Rhythm Guitar, Jadon: Bass. Most of the band is from Sheffield apart from Evan who’s from Sunderland and Jadon from London.
As schoolmates Archie and Zak followed the same bands growing up and went to Arctic Monkeys’ gig in Hillsborough 2023. Following that they realised performing is something they wanted to pursue and both picked up their instruments the next month.
After practicing on their own they started to play together in living rooms to renting rehearsal rooms when they could which led to getting in touch with Connor who was an old schoolmate and started practicing together.
Through Connor we messaged Jadon who was a guitarist in London but also knew bass and he was up for practicing with us. Not long after Evan joined through a facebook post which led to Cargos being made.
Which three words would you use to describe your music?
Energetic, Hard, Memorable
– You released your debut single Incomplete last year. What was the reception like for it? What’s it about? And, for anyone who hasn’t listened yet, what should they be expecting from it?
Incomplete was written based off an old mate one of us used to have and his past relationship, written from his partners perspective and his, it goes into his questionable decisions which we didn’t agree with and where we found inspiration for the lyrics.
When we dropped the song we were blown away with the fact people were even listening, watching the numbers of streams go up each day was such a great feeling and meant people were interested in what we made. To anyone who hasn’t listened, it’s a raw representation of who we are but it sounds better live!
– How would you describe the Cargos sound to people who haven’t listened to you yet?
We want to make you move. We’re sick of going to gigs where the crowd is static and want to make music to get everybody on their feet and not care who’s looking.
– What influences you to write music? Any key themes or topics that you write about?
Mainly writing comes from anything that’s happened or is going on in our lives that we feel strongly about and think maybe other people might do aswell. This spans from relationships to grief to bad decisions etc.
– Which bands/musicians are/have been your strongest musical influences?
As a band we all have very diverse music tastes from Heavy Metal, Britpop and Classic Rock with common denominators being: Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes and Muse and because of this we use a lot of our personal inspirations with our playing which has really helped shaped our sound as a band.
– What else have you got coming up through the rest of 2026? New music, new gigs, recording etc…?
We have just wrapped up recording and mixing of our second single called ‘Gone Too Far’ which will be dropping within the next month! That will be leading up to a gig we have supporting Billy Bibby from Catfish & The Bottlemen in Mexborough September 12th and our biggest gig to come at The Foundry supporting Matilda Shakes on 3rd October.
– Anything else you’d like people to know about Cargos/your music?
We’re only just getting started, we have so much new music we can’t wait to finish and show people what we’ve been working on.
