COMEDIAN IGNACIO LOPEZ REVEALS HIS AMAZING FANTASY TRACKLIST

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF FANTASY ALBUMS WHERE MUSIC FANS ARE PUT TO THE TEST TO DECIPHER THEIR ULTIMATE COLLECTION

The rules are simple(ish): they can’t repeat an album, and to just make it that little bit more interesting they have to use the same track number from another album. For example, Track 1 could be the opening track of the incredible Stone Roses’ debut ‘I Wanna Be Adored’. Track 2 could be Blur’s ‘Song 2′ – you get the idea? – basically their fave track 1, 2, 3 etc from 10 different albums.

This month’s Fantasy Album is curated by comedian/writer Ignacio Lopez. You may have seen Ignacio online, his videos have received over 20 Million views in total across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. He has put on shows at Edinburgh Festival and toured the world doing stand-up comedy, including supporting Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield.

1. ‘Cochise’ – Audioslave

48 seconds into their debut album, Rage Against The Machine fronted by Chris Cornell crashed into my brain forever. The ultimate walk on music as a comedian. Crunchy Morello guitar riff, smashing drums, thumping wah bass. Play Loud.”

2. ‘Evil’ – Interpol

Dark pop bass, stabbing guitar sounds, deep whimpering vocals, and flashbacks to a muppet car crash music video. “

3. ‘Ready Or Not’ – The Fugees

A mid 90’s classic that had a generation of people asking, “oh, for fuck’s sake… do I like Enya now?”

4. ‘Island In The Sun’ – Weezer

I got into Weezer from their song ‘Suzanne’ on the Mallrats soundtrack. The Green Album had a more consistent sound than The Blue Album, but that meant a lot of the songs blurred into one; This upbeat, summery song still stands out. Plus, the video has baby monkeys in it. Who doesn’t love monkeys?”

5. ‘Idle Hands’ – Gutter Twins

Mark Lanegan’s beautiful baritone grunge voice on top of discordant guitar and orchestral strings.”

6. ‘Addicted to You’ – Alec Empire

Digital hardcore pioneer Alec Empire samples The Matrix. No one has ever done anything like this. That’s why it’s going to work. “

7. ‘And All That Could Have Been’ – Nine Inch Nails

Look. I could have done 10 Nine Inch Nails tracks, or songs Trent Reznor appears on. Easy. I’m such a fan of Nine Inch Nails I refuse to use screws. I’ve shown remarkable restraint not bending the rules to jam a ‘How To Destroy Angels’ or one of Trent and Atticus’ soundtracks in here too. ‘And All That Could Have Been’ has it all; multiple time signatures, fuzzy guitar, haunting layers of synth, and for teenage goth me in the early 2000’s, it was as impactful and poignant as ‘Hurt‘. “

8. ‘God Only Knows’ – The Beach Boys

Even though Brian Wilson is a lying sack of shit and never buys a round, this song makes up for it. It’s just enchanting. I learnt it on the guitar really early on, and it still blows my mind how sweet it sounds. “

9.  ‘So We Can Stay Alive’ – Garbage

Shirley Manson rocks. Garbage rocks. This album, and this track rocks. (And they got their name from someone saying Butch Vig’s remix of a Nine Inch Nails song ‘sounded like Garbage’ 😂).

10. ‘Descent Into Mystery’ – Danny Elfman

This is my album, my choice, piss off, we’re finishing up with a trip to The Bat Cave. “

A gothic Fantasy Album from Ignacio, perfect for this Halloween week. Pop it on the Bluetooth speakers and have your own kitchen death disco.

Ignacio’s UK tour begins this month and starting in Southampton on the 5th of November and ending in Hucknall in January. Tour dates and tickets are available here
