DEAD KENNEDY'S LIVE IN MANCHESTER

DEAD KENNEDY’S LIVE IN MANCHESTER, WHAT HAPPENED?

Tonight’s near sold out show at Manchester’s Academy 2 featured non other than the original punk pranksters, Dead Kennedy’s. Prior to the band taking the stage to perform, the two original members alongside frontman Skip Greer (who joined in 2008) addressed the audience with a tribute to their late drummer DH Peligro who tragically passed away last October.

The band are currently on a UK tour and still have a dedicated following, with fans adorned in their finest punk getup. We are not one whole song in before the crowd surfing begins, a younger audience member is hurled towards me, fortunately, security intervene and he is dragged over the barrier and to wherever they take rebels these days?

Lead vocalist, Skip Greer cavorts around the stage with the energy and enthusiasm of a man half his age, impressively building the crowd up as they played some of their finest songs, including my personal favourite ‘Police Truck’, (yes I first became a fan back in 1998 aged 12 when this song was featured on the soundtrack of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater – a Playstation one game for anyone who has not got a clue what I am waffling on about!) The crowd seem to agree with my choice as the level of excitement increased ten fold.

The band had not toured the UK since 2019, but their set has not changed too much as they rolled out the favourites including, Let’s Lynch the Landlord, Kill The Poor, Too Drunk to Fuck and California Über Alles. The band continue their UK tour with dates still to come in Camden, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Belfast. I would encourage you to catch them at a gig soon before they head back over the pond, as who knows when they will grace the stages of the UK again.
