Dodgy – ‘Summer Forever’ – new single review

Britpop icons Dodgy return with the new single ‘Summer Forever’, the latest single to be lifted from the band’s most recent album, Hello Beautiful.

Back in the heady days of Britpop, the band’s analogue warmth, wonderful harmonies and singalong, summertime anthems made Dodgy festival favourites; the band’s humour was a refreshing change to a scene that sometimes took itself a little too seriously. New single ‘Summer Forever’ delivers all of these elements and is sure to be another favourite on this summers festival circuit.

Singer Nigel Clark said: “I wrote ’Summer Forever’ reminiscing about those endless summers when I was a kid, a time filled with optimism and a sense of invincibility. Everyone looks back on happier, safer, warmer times, and that’s completely understandable, but we can’t live in the past or wish those days back. We have to keep looking forward. As we say towards the end of the song – ‘Let the Future Shine.’”

The single has also been remixed by former Boo Radley, Martin Carr, entitled ‘What Future?’ something that sadly seems all too rare these days,

Drummer Mathew Priest said: “We’ve always loved Martin’s work with the Boo Radleys, especially the sonic explorations in Lazarus and the Giant Steps album. We share a publisher, and they suggested the remix, so we jumped at the chance to see what Martin would do.

“I love how he has offered an alternative idea of perhaps a darker, more pessimistic view. His remix is a half empty glass to the original song which is half full, and we love how he’s come at it from that angle, as it’s totally valid”

It’s great to see Dodgy enjoying somewhat of a rennaissance., recent album Hello Beautiful holds its own up against the bands masterpieces Home Grown and Free Peace Sweet, the latter of which turns thirty this year.
