I filmed this video in a hotel room while touring Australia. What I love about the setting is that the backdrop could be almost any city in the world. Combined with the cool blue tones and soft natural light, the hotel room creates a feeling of reflection and loneliness, but it’s also a temporary space.
It’s somewhere you pass through, where emotions can exist for a while before being left behind. That felt like the perfect setting for 7 AM, a song I wrote during one of the most mentally exhausting periods of my life.
I didn’t want to create a complicated narrative. Instead, I wanted the visuals to feel like an extension of the song itself. Everything was kept simple, relying on natural light, quiet moments and an intimate performance to capture the feeling of waking up alone with your thoughts before the rest of the world catches up. I shot, edited and colour graded the video myself because I wanted every part of it to feel personal and honest.
My hope is that, alongside the song, it reminds people they aren’t alone in what they’re carrying, and that even the darkest mornings eventually give way to light.
