A beautiful venue space that started with groups of friends and stragglers enjoying drinks and conversations before the main event with the excellent DJ Metrodrome of Manchester providing the tone of the night and a few dancefloor people cheering him on before the floor began to fill out and Dubbul O & DJ Cutters were welcomed to the stage.
A lot more chilled out compared to a rock gig with everyone cheering along, shuffling on the spot and dancing in their own spaces but still together. Dubbul O and his incredible flow as well as bringing Manchester name Sparkz up onto the stage were just absolutely wicked and just an all round good start to the night.
The floor crowded a bit more by the time Syntax and his new live band hit the stage.
Now, Syntax alone is just brilliant. His style, humour and rhyme flow I’ve enjoyed massively for years so it was on my list to see him live anyway… I didn’t have a clue what to expect with him doing his songs with a guitar, bass and drums typical of rock gigs but – I think actually all I have is wow because both the drummer and guitarist can play AND rap amazingly, meaning there was alot of freestyle new stuff I hadn’t heard and his bass player is genuinely one of the best I’ve seen (up there with Gloria and Deniro’s) and Sparkz and Dubbul O being invited back up – there was just such a friendly atmosphere there.
Little in the way of the happy riots I’m used to but it just wasn’t that sort of gig. It had that community spirit about it in a totally different way. Everyone was there to sing along and soak up the vibes over partying. It was just a really nice place to be which says alot about Syntax, his fans and the Manchester hip-hop scene
