Fresh off the back of their debut Isle of Wight performance and multiple plays across the BBC network, Manchester five-piece Dreaming of Citra have released their second single of 2026, titled ‘BMW’.
A song built around Rae (vocalist) acquiring her dream car, an idea that sounds a little corny at first, though there is much more to ‘BMW’ than just that.
It’s about the people in the car. The destination. The music on the radio and the memories made.
A pop anthem in every regard, ‘BMW’ kicks off with a very pop-driven riff. Something that can often be described as safe, but when paired with vocals and a melody to follow, the instrumentation transforms from something I originally felt unsure about into a flashback to youthful summers.
Sitting somewhere between Manchester-indie and US pop, the overall vibe of the song has a very coming-of-age feel to it, almost 2000’s coded in the way, especially in the chorus, it sounds and the vibe that it creates.
Switching the mode of transport from the “BMW” in question to a horse further into the song is not only witty lyricism, but once again shows that the song isn’t really about the car. It’s about everything that comes with it and the journey it takes.
As the song closes out, the pop elements really shine and the only way I can describe it is by saying how well this song would work in a sports game, such as EA FC. It just has that slightly indie, predominantly pop sound that is synonymous with those games. An ultimate compliment.
As much as I felt unsure at the start, Dreaming of Citra really smashed it with ‘BMW’.
It’s summery. It’s catchy and it’s fun. What more could you want?
