New Century Hall was tonight’s venue, a Monday night gig can be a hard pull but this evening’s artist had certainly drawn in a hefty crowd of music fans.
Ezra Furman has really made an impact on the music scene, bringing her energetic and life affirming positivity to songs that seem to reflect a new way of seeing things. Her own journey has been beautifully documented in her music and tonight we got to see this played out live.
The lighting set an eerie atmosphere as a reserved Furman took to the stage, following her talented band. The audience provided a warm reception which seemed to ease Furman’s hesitancy. The vocals were outstanding, and the first track set the tone of talent for the evening, she has it in abundance.
The onstage energy was prevalent all evening, and the in between chats with the audience were endearing, and were well received. There was an easiness in her stage presence which made the night flow. With tracks such as ‘Driving Down to LA’ and ‘Power of the Moon’ being personal highlights, I could have listened for longer, anything to forget the thought of it ONLY being Monday!
The encore consisted of two more tracks, ‘Love You so Bad’ and ‘Suck The Blood From my Wound’ which rounded of this evening perfectly. The set seemed to race by and as the audience made their way back out into the cold evening, I am pretty sure that their spirits were lifted, Monday night gigs have a lot to answer for, and should certainly be embraced!
