FRANZ FERDINAND

FRANZ FERDINAND ARE BACK – WHAT HAPPENED AT THEIR MANCHESTER SHOW?

Scottish indie rockers Franz Ferdinand are the latest act to perform as part of the Amazon city sessions, which sees gigs live streamed to Amazon prime customers around the world. The gigs are thrifty, lasting approximately an hour, but that is ample time for FF to give the crowd a stellar performance, including tracks from their latest album ‘The Human Fear’ and ending with a very nice Mancunian surprise.

Franz Ferdinand dominante the early 2000’s charts with their rockier approach to what was an indie, slightly mellower and far less edgy approach than the more raucous 90’s. Arguably one of the better bands about, there was much exciting amongst the audience to see them return with a new album and a new line-up, with Audrey Tait replacing Bob Hardy on drums, and Dino Bardot replacing Nick McCarthy on rhythm guitar. `The band are still fronted by Alex Kapranos, now in his 50’s but still looking every inch the classic indie front man.

The new album is well received with a slightly punkier edge than their previous material we are used to, but still familiar with numerous tempo changes and carefully crafted rhythm guitar that hooks you in instantly. The gig, slightly shorter than usual shows due to it being live streamed ended with the a certain Smiths guitarist strolling onto the stage to play the bands most famous track, that’s right! ~Johnny Fucking Marr ladies and gents.

Marr and Kapranos, an unlikely duo but the audience were lapping it up as the famous intro to ‘Take Me Out’ bellowed around the venues mid sized auditorium. (I am sure they could have sold out the venues mighty warehouse but that was occupied by an arts exhibition). The band also indulged the Smiths fans, and there appeared to be many in attendance, going off the incredibly warm welcome that Mr Marr received, ‘Bigmouth Strikes Again’ was the song of choice and it was executed perfectly.

It appears Franz Ferdinand are back and here to stay with their new album making waves, favourably with both fans and critics alike. Check out where you can catch them next below.
