FUN LOVIN CRIMINALS BACKSTAGE AT MANCHESTER RITZ

FUN LOVIN CRIMINALS LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

Fun Lovin’ Criminals returned to Manchester to play to a large crowd at Ritz on Sunday evening, some clearly eager to see (and hear) the new line-up. They were not disappointed as original member Fast (aka Brian Leiser) and Frank Benbini are continuing with new member the very stylish Naim Cortazzi.

Following the departure of founding member Huey Morgan, the trio with an alternative line-up have continued to tour and are currently in the middle of their 25th anniversary tour. After a brief chat with the band backstage at the Ritz in the rain by a canal (very Marconian) , they said despite the weather they were very happy to be back in Manchester and had played many times before.

The band arrived on stage amongst an array of instruments and to the theme of ‘Hill Street Blues’, one of the cooler band entrances I have seen recently. The first track was the laid back ‘Up on the Hill’ which was followed by ‘Love Unlimited’, ’10th Street’ and ‘Southside’. The sound was incredible and this classy venue suited the band perfectly.

The encore was the one of the crowd had been waiting for, with the Trio finishing the set with ‘Scooby Snacks’ undoubtedly their most well known song which includes a mash up of sound clips from well known 90’s films rounded the evening off perfectly.

You cannot deny that this new line-up has chemistry even if we do miss the charisma of Morgan. The line-up should certainly not deter old and new fans from taking a punt and getting some tickets on what is guaranteed to be an excellent night of entertainment.
