Future 72 – Firefighting

Country rhythms are given a pop twist in this new track by Surrey singer songwriter Future 72. A former session musician, he now writes and records his own original music, and judging by this latest effort that is seemingly a wise move.

This is a track full of charisma that seamlessly integrates his differing influences to create a fresh, modern take on traditional country music. His beautifully layered sound incorporates contemporary harmonies and melodies and places them atop a stripped back instrumental track to produce a very listenable base, with the flashes of country guitar evolving this into something more fascinating.

Although Firefighting possesses an intriguing melancholic vibe thanks in part to its mellow beginning, it’s in fact the exemplary crescendo building qualities it shows that transport it from being more than something that’s easy to listen to, to being instantly memorable. The vibrant power, especially of the vocals which are exhibited in the chorus, and the swashbuckling guitar riffs which follow serve more than to please an ear for tight sounds, but show a real passion and understanding of sound, testimony to his days as a session player.

The biggest compliment which should be paid to Future 72 is his combination of such simple elements to bring together what is a really strong track. Everything seems meticulously planned out, with everything from his dynamic voice to the minimal drums adding something to what becomes a huge sound when put together. You cannot fail to be impressed by his work, and with so much talent there seems endless directions in which he could go next, let’s hope it’s not long ‘til we find out.
