GARY NUMAN RETURNS TO MANCHESTER – A BRILLIANT AND EMOTIONAL GIG AT THE APOLLO

An emotionally charged gig took place at Manchester’s o2 Apollo on Saturday night as Gary Numan returned to Manchester to a sell out show. The New Wave icon was a hot ticketed event as fans flocked to Ardwick in the pouring rain and cold, many adorned in heavy eyeliner and their best Numan T-Shirts.

Numan’s dedicated fanbase cannot be faulted, as the huge outpouring of love across his fan pages has surely been a comfort to Numan who very recently lost his brother. Some would postpone, but Numan has carried on the UK tour and the fans have been with him each step of the way.

At times during energetics set, Numan took time to compose himself, but no one could fault the performance which saw Numan conduct his trademark supercharged dance moves as cheers emitted from the crowd constantly each time he furiously started to move.

The setlist was as dynamic as ever, kicking off the proceedings with ‘This Wreckage’ a sure fire way to get the crowd riled up, teamed with the exuberant stage lighting, red strobes criss crossing across the stage as Numan cavorted in front of them was quite a wonderful sight.

Numan and his band have a wonderful chemistry, with Numan often taking a step back to allow them to shine. A forty five year career with such energy is highly impressive, It is frenzied, chaotic and dazzling,

A near twenty track set which of course included the massive hits such as ‘Telekon’ and ‘We Are Glass’. The encore saw Numan play four tracks from Tubeway Army which was certainly a treat for those fans familiar with Numan’s work prior to his solo career. The evening showcased how punk rock is still at the helm of popularity with fans of Numan celebrating a triumphant evening on yet another busy night of gigs across the various venues in the city.
