Gaz Kelly Interview - RGM Introducing

Gaz Kelly Interview – RGM Introducing

Hiya Gaz Kelly, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.

Thanks for joining us today… Tell us bit about where you are from and how you got into music?

First of thank you for having me and second of all great question! I think my passion for music Stemmed from car journeys with dad with him blasting the radio and singing his heart out, But it wasn’t till lockdown till i had actually had instruments put into my hand and from there i never looked back i knew i had to do something with music.

What’s the live music scene like in Manchester right now?

Manchester is arguably the best city for live music as it steeped with such a rich musical legacy, it’s a great joy performing around Manchester because no matter where i am on the bill, I’ll still get to discover new music and it’s such a privilege to do both.

Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?

I’ve had the honour to open for the Manchester based band “Soulist” they have a great vibe and a cracking sound i would highly recommend listening to their or if you can buy a ticket to one of their shows they are a class act. I’ve worked with the Bassist “Kory Clarke” quite alot During the Development of “Some Stories Don’t Have Happy Endings”.

Do you think it’s easy to become a victim of our surrounds sometimes?

Absolutely, i think it’s very easy to let your surroundings overwhelm you, especially in the music industry where seeing other artists perform can knock your confidence entirely, i know I’ve been there. But if i could give any advice to those that would listen would be to just trust your ability someone else being great doesn’t mean you are not great.

What are your ambitions for the band?

Oooo my ambitions for the future is to develop “Gaz Kelly” from a solo act into a fully-fledged band me and my producer Jameel Farooq are working to make that happen for the new year. Speaking of Mr Farooq I need a moment to sing that man’s praises without him id still be sat trying to record an album and not of gotten anything of substance out there so a massive thank you to him.

Whats your favourite social media platform to use and why?

I feel like Instagram is the easiest to use especially with promoting gigs and music

We believe it’s essential to have a presence on Facebook, Instagram and X to introduce yourself to all the different types of audiences out there, what’s your thoughts on that?

I do believe it’s beneficial to have a presence to reach new audiences but in the beginning when you have no following or no presence on social media. The only way to build an audience is by getting yourself out there do some open mics find s booker whose willing to book yoou

What’s your view on the Music industry today?

I think the music industry is as big as its ever been at this point so many new opportunities are coming now with the rise of technology and to be frank im excited to see where it goes.

Whats your thoughts on AI generated music?

I think in certain situations it’s okay, if you’re using it for fun or testing a song idea have at it. But if you are using AI to make music for you as an artist to release, me personally i think that’s wrong how can you take pride in something that was made in seconds at the push of a button and then try make money of it. It leaves abit of a sour taste in my mouth to be honest.

Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music/

Less Is more, and trust your instinct if you have an idea follow it up.

What’s currently in your ears and on rotation at the moment?

Gaz Kelly Interview - RGM Introducing

At the moment im listening to alot of Fleetwood Mac and Billy Joel ive been loving “The Stranger” album its unbelievable.

What was your worst experience on stage? Any funny stories to share?

Oh i remember once i had just got on stage i was nervous as anything i didnt introduce myself or the song just dove right in only to be stopped halfway through by the audience because i hadnt of plugged my guitar in, ohhh i was so embarrased.

Got any fun, funny stories from life on the road?

Ahhh unfortunatly none come to mind.

I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?

I doo, i have recently just released an album “Some Stories Don’t Have Happy Endings” and im so very proud me and my Producer Jameel Farooq worked tirelessly making sure this album was as great as it could possibly be.

What was the recording process like?

The recording process was a blast, we had many laughs, many eureka moments with some heartaches too. Overall i look back on that time very fondly some of my favourite memories have been in studios working away at songs and i can’t wait to experiance that again with Album 2

Would you change anything now it’s finished?

Obviously as an artist you music is never gonna be 100% the way you want it after is released but its a learning curve, yes i can nitpick what i dont like about the album, orrr i could just use whar i learned from this album to better the next album when its in its development process

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Yes go over to Gaz Kelly on youtube we have some great things coming over the next few months.
