GEORDIE GREEP LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

It was only a matter of months ago when Geordie Greep headlined New Century Hall, he sold out that venue and tonight he has taken on the O2 Ritz Manchester, and yes he’s sold out here too!

The talented Greep has built on his fan base since going solo following a successful period with band Black Midi. It is certainly a challenge to categorise Greep’s style as it is a combination of so many, jazz, blues, and a bit of punk make for some very impressive tracks.

Along with his established band of musicians, Greep soulfully swaggers across the stage, at times just singing erratically into the mic, before picking up a guitar and treating fans to extensive guitar solos that they whoop and cheer at. Greep is one of those performers where simply listening to his work at home is not enough, you NEED to see this young man live and up close to fully appreciate the talent.

The set list was short with just ten songs played, but the musical intricacy of each was exceptional, many lasting longer due to freestyle jamming with his band. The band’s chemistry was unreal, all stepping back and allowing the others to have their moment, true old fashioned musicianship here tonight at the Ritz.

‘The New Sound’ and ‘As If Waltz’ featured extended outros with the final track of the evening The Magician bringing the evening to a classy close. Another magical evening from Greep and I am fairly certain that in a year or so this audience will have doubled in size. Catch him whilst you can folks, he is going places.
