GEORGE BOROWSKI’S FAREWELL TO MANCHESTER GIG – WHAT HAPPENED?

Friday night saw the gathering of friends, family and fans of legendary musician George Borowski to Manchester’s recently refurbished and now state of the art Band On The Wall. Industry bods, colleagues and band mates of George gave him a send off to remember as he prepares to take his musical expertise to French Shores.

The farewell evening coincided with George’s birthday, and there was plenty to celebrate as George’s band ‘The Fabulous Wonderfuls’ (which also features George’s talented daughter, singer Mora) took to the stage throughout the evening along with special guest artist, this sold out gig raised the roof. ‘Guitar George’ really knows how to work a crowd, with his infectious smile and playful stage presence, it is certain that he will be sorely missed as he is a regular on line-ups across the UK.

George has had an illustrious career, playing with some of the biggest names in music including Meat Loaf and Teenage Fanclub to name but just two. Growing up in Wrexham, and later moving to the North West, George taught himself guitar, and the rest as you say is history.

It was fitting that some of George’s musician friends had made the evening, including The Doves Jimi Goodwin, who cites George as one of the reasons he became a musician previous saying ‘A unique singer- songwriter with a righteous howl – George is one of the reasons I became a musician’.

So as this hugely inspirational stalwart of the Manchester music scene prepares to take up a residency in France, we at RGM would like to wish him all the best on this travels, and of course hope to one day see him back on British soil doing what he does best. Good luck Mr Borowski, and au revoir!
