IDLE HANDS

IDLE HANDS PLAY NEWCASTLE! – READ ALL ABOUT IT HERE.

As large crowds gathered last night to see The Pale White supporting fellow Geordie hero, Sam Fender, I was a stone’s throw away at the smallest of gigs supporting the best young band on the local scene, Idle Hands, at Little Buildings. Drummer Evan had already been to see The Pale White ahead of his own gig… reports of wild scenes there as expected!

The Idle Hands set was as deliciously raucous as ever. A bit chaotic in places with cymbals keeling over, but that added to the excitement.

The opening track, now titled Bullets, is their newest and best song to date. It is a mega noisy thrash out almost verging on Metallica with aggressive guitars and spectacularly thunderous drums. It really packs a punch! And the lyrical content on the horrors of the current Gaza crisis is well observed… something the band are keen to speak out about.

Other tracks in the set included their brilliant new single, Silent, which will be released next Friday. There was also one they’ve played a couple of times towards the end of the set with a more melodic, shoegaze feel, that has an awesome chorus line and some ace vocals from Joe. It’s kind of a counterpoint to their usual energetic, post-punk fuelled vibe and demonstrates their range of influences.

The lads have a real sense of fun and Geordie banter both on and off stage. Behind the drum kit, Evan started munching on his Tesco’s finest pasta dish between a couple of songs and then offering to share it which made me laugh out loud. I even got a name check from Joe at one point, which was cool.

Idle Hands next major gig is their headline set at The Grove on 4 July!
