Inspiral Carpets Live at AMP in Stockport

INSPIRAL CARPETS LIVE IN STOCKPORT – WHAT HAPPENED?

Stockport’s newest music venue AMP played host to Manchester legends Inspiral Carpets for a special intimate gig on Monday evening.

Hoards of lucky fans who secured the sought after tickets headed to the venue by the famous Market Hall to see the indie icons on all their glory. The band are in the midst of a UK tour supporting other Mancunian legends Happy Monday’s, but tonight was all about Stephen, Clint, Graham, Oscar and Kevin.

The audience were treated to some of the band’s finest work with Stephen Holt in fine voice kicking off the proceedings with ‘Joe’ and already the audience were dancing and singing, with regular chants of ‘Boon Army!’ in between tracks. Making up the rest of the band was of course founding members Clint Boon on keys and Graham Lambert on lead guitar. Clint’s son Oscar has made a great addition on bass *when he is not jamming with his other project The Solution (do check those guys out!) and Kev Clark on drums.

As soon as the famous chords struck for ‘This is how it feels’ the crowd went into a frenzy. I like the fact that the band choose to add this mid set, and not towards the end. A huge singalong, bringing the audience together and always one of those moments in an Inspiral Carpets set that stays with you.

Other highlights included ‘Keep the circle around’ and ‘Dragging me down’ before the band departed the stage briefly to ‘piss into a backstage bucket’ (long story). They came back refreshed and ready for a brilliant encore that featured another three songs, fans were certainly getting the full Inspiral experience this evening. ‘Commercial Rain’, ’96 Tears’ and of course the finale ‘Saturn 5’.

The whole evening was a success and a testament to AMP and other smaller venues giving fans an opportunity to see their favorite artists in smaller settings. The venue is fucking cool, the band were fucking cool, and all there is left to say is MOO!
