A rainy evening in Manchester (which is most evening’s at the moment) and a lively four piece await me in the YES smoking shelter, not sure it’s that sheltered as the rain keeps on coming but despite this, the band are happy to have a brief chat before their support slot this evening.
The band are currently supporting another hot topic band of the moment in GANS, the Brummie outlet have created quite a stir, and Hungry are happy to be on board. Their official press released sums up their intentions of where the band are headed, and from the bus around town, many influential, industry scenesters have earmarked them as the next big thing…
Following the buzz around single ‘Morning Coffee’, Manchester’s rising post-punk outfit HUNGRY are set to release
their long-anticipated debut EP ‘Are You The Best Yet?’ on 27 August 2025 via Sound Recordings.
The EP marks a major milestone for the band, capturing the full scope of their raw energy and confrontational style.
Across five tracks, HUNGRY dive headfirst into themes of self-doubt, defiance and identity. From the breakneck title
track to the snarling Eat Me, the EP delivers a sharp dose of fuzz-heavy riffs, tight rhythms and the kind of unfiltered
intensity that has made the band one of the UK’s most vital new voices.
Frontman Jacob Peck says of the EP: ‘Are you the best yet?’ centres around the disassociating quality of late stage
capitalism, the disaffection and detachment of the internet age, and the apathy and inaction of the middle classes. The
song itself sees the transformation of art from a vital part of life with worth in and of itself into a consumable
commodity, where artists must compete for supremacy and reach social signifiers of success in order to justify their
pursuits.
Drawing from a childhood in Cambridge and the centring of a semi-Etonian education system and its values,
the lyrics of the EP push for a return to the visceral and tactile elements of life and demand that a different way of the
world is possible for all.
Stay tuned for further gig announcements from Hungry…
