The CO-OP Live was once again host to a band of epic proportions. Iron Maiden were back in Manchester three years after playing the Arena, but tonight the CO-OP live made this show one to remember.
This band are perfect for such a large scale state of the art venue, considering that their shows are hugely theatrical, prop heavy and of course those computer generated intros, this place was built for such a performance. The start took us on a virtual journey through the backstreets of London with the track ‘Doctor Doctor’ blasting through the speakers, whipping the crowd into a frenzy, banners waving overhead and many adorned in Eddie T-Shirts ready to let rip.
Bruce and the band ran onto the stage with the same energy they had fifty years ago! The fans were beside themselves, and what was quite refreshing was the lack of filming on mobile phones, I noticed fans just living in the moment and soaking up every bit of this experience.
The first track was ‘The Idles of March’ with Bruce running backwards and forwards as the band pulled all the classic rockstar shapes, it was the ultimate metal experience and it was fucking exciting. The visuals, the atmosphere, this venue shits all over the arena for bands like this, and this band deserve THIS quality!
Track three saw the reprise of everyone’s favourite mascot. This section was just wonderfully camp, mock horror, and plain daft but it works and the reception Eddie got was off the scale! Eddie arrived with a mullet, ripped jeans and wielding an axe, a little like adult horror pants and the band played along brilliantly. The whole show had an element of hammer horror, a bit Edgar Allen Poe mixed with Rocky Horror and you’re perhaps half way there, but lets be honest, not much can be compared to an Iron Maiden gig!
Today I heard a rumour that the band might be headlining Download Festival next year…watch this space for announcements on that! For more info on this legendary bunch of chaps check out the link below!
