IST IST played their first of two hometown shows at Night and Day last night to commemorate ten years since forming. `Tonight they play the second show at Gorilla, and unsurprisingly both shows were a sell out – the first showing selling out so rapidly that a second date was added to keep up with demand. I dare say five nights could have been easily sold out with tonight being many gig-goers first of 2025, and what a way to kick off the year!
In the last decade the band have gradually risen to the top in the post punk genre, certainly gaining a loyal fan base not just in the UK but overseas, which has no doubt due to their relentless hard work and non stop touring, treating fans to their legendary energetic, electrifying and intense performances, and last night was one of their best.
The venue was quite possibly the busiest I have seen it, with fans packed down the front, sides, and all the way to the merch stand, with punters struggling and straining to catch a glimpse of the four piece, not known for their audience interaction, the music doing the legwork here the band launch into a generous set, which of course included tracks from their new album ‘Light a Bigger Fire’ which was released back in September.
Adam Houghton’s vocals are intense, sombre and demand to be listened to, and are complimented perfectly by Andy Keating’s bass, and it is difficult not to draw some comparisons to Hook and Curtis, but IST IST have most certainly developed their own unique style in the last ten years that is forever evolving, even since their album in 2023 ‘Protagonists’ the sound has shifted again, with a more Numan-esque synth sound from Matt Peters on keys.
IST IST are a band that demand to be seen live, and many will have that privilege again this evening at an other small capacity venue. The band are about to embark on another European tour in April before no doubt appearing on some festival line-ups in the summer. Should you ever have an opportunity to see this band live then you must do so! More details of their live appearances can be found on the link below.
