Guildford artists Jane Marie (composer, songwriter and producer)and Jessica Mia (Vocalist) have collated an EP consisting of 6 Jazz songs, all which will get you moving and dancing! The energy in the songs are so infectious!
Dance With Me is the first song on the EP and what a great song to start off with. The melody is super catchy and the trumpets sound brilliant within this track. There’s a piano in the background which is noticeable behind Jessicas’s vocals, which may I say are perfect for Jazz tracks such as these that they have come up with. It is a cracking track.
The next track is quite contrasting. It’s Over is a much more slow and heartfelt song. It reminds me of Elton John’s style. The slowness still includes great instrumentals and vocals that should be recognised for the talent we hear throughout the track. The lyrics speak of giving up on a relationship and not wanting to go back as it is no good for either involved. I like this song the most so far. It’s refreshing to hear something so soothing and heartfelt.
The third track It’s True (Nostalgia) starts with a slow trumpet and drums flowing beautifully into vocals. The instrumental is even different to the first two songs which has been performed, it is slow like It’s Over but a little bit more upbeat. It would still get you up and dancing if this was performed live. The vocalist has an extraordinary voice, I haven’t heard a vocals like this before!
The fourth and fifth tracks Love You and Unravelled have similar instrumentals but Love You is much more of a love song than Unravelled. I would like to perceive this EP as a story, and these two songs give the start of a relationship and the ending of a relationship. At the end of Unravelled she says ‘I don’t think twice’, which could be about the person who was involved romantically. I think it’s a great way to look at this EP.
Last but not least is You Light Me Up, which is a fun way to end the track list. It’s very enjoyable with an upbeat tempo and pitch-perfect vocals. This track is delicious. It is brilliantly composed. The whole EP is great but I do certainly love this track for the joyous energy it brings to the EP! I’d really recommend checking out this entire EP as there are some great tracks on there. Whether you like Jazz or not, there will be a song you can’t get enough of. The talent seeps out, that’s for sure!
