JASON DERULO LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

Jason Derulo and his team of dancers turned the AO Arena into an all singing all dancing extravaganza last night. The American singer/songwriter brought his ‘Nu King’ tour to Manchester as part of a huge world tour.

The arena was a sell out and as we entered, we were greeted by a sea of colour with audience members sporting flashing wands and torches, clearly excited for the arrival of Derulo who eventually appeared out of a large brightly lit platform.

The stage setting was incredibly impressive with no expense spared. As Derulo made his way down the stairs, flames and fireworks rose from the front of the stage, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Kicking off the set with an array of backing dancers, it was truly a spectacular start as Derulo started with the titular track of his the ‘Nu King’ album.

Derulo himself showcased some impressive choreography with the show being more theatrical than your traditional RnB gig. The hits continued with ‘Whatcha Say’ and then slowing the pace down somewhat which a quick pause for breath and a cup of tea (yes really) before launching into ‘Tiptoe’.

The singer mixes a number of genres, with pop being predominant, followed by influences of RnB and hip-hop. Derulo incorporated a cover into the mix with his rendition of ‘Love Tonight’ by Shouse. The dance offs were certainly one of the most entertaining parts of the show, with carefully crafted sequences and beautiful ensemble pieces and possibly the biggest wardrobe budget I have seen for a while.

The evening came to a close with one of the singer’s biggest hits and a clear fan favourite ‘Want to Want Me’ from his 2015 album ‘Everything is 4’.

The ‘Nu King’ tour continues in Glasgow this evening and more information can be found below.
