Hiya John Galea, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.
Thanks for joining us today… Tell us bit about where you are from and how you got into music?
I am Singer/Songwriter from Great Yarmouth U.K and got into playing music when my dad brought home an electric organ he found one day and I learnt to play and had Classical grades and then learnt how to songwrite.
What’s the live music scene like in Great Yarmouth right now?
Its quite lively, with up and coming bands, its really diverse which is great.
Anyone we should be looking out for (bar you, of course)?
Details on live shows are coming up – can’t wait to share with everyone.
Do you think it’s easy to become a victim of our surrounds sometimes?
It’s always good to get yourself out of your comfort zone and see what comes your way. When it comes to music that’s especially for for me I love to work with new artists and producers and it brings something fresh out in me too.
What are your ambitions?
I’m looking forward to releasing my debut album and maybe anther single before it drops. It’s been such a journey as an independent artist and I’m really proud of the tracks on the album. It definitely represents me as an artist.
Whats your favourite social media platform to use and why?
Probably my most followed, TikTok. During COVID I got into TikTok in a big way and now we are at 1 million followers. Its juts a fun place and you can get really creative.
We believe its essential to have a presence on Facebook, Instagram and X to introduce yourself to all the different types of audiences out there, what’s your thoughts on that?
Unfortunately I think its true, you really have to spread yourself out on the socials as much as you can to promote yourself but also its great to connect with your fans.
What’s your view on the Music industry today?
It’s pretty tough and probably with the rise of AI – it isn’t in a good place. Not only are royalties are still a problem with the digital platforms but now you’re competing with AI . As an Independent artist you really have to be invested in a creative way musically and be prepared to sacrifice for your art and be realistic or it can really impact your mental health.
Whats your thoughts on AI generated music?
I’m sure there’s a space for it , but at this time point I can’t say I’m overly excited about it.
Whats the biggest thing you have learned recently as you progress with your music?
Just be you. There really is only one of you and your story is unique. So son’t be afraid of who you are.
What’s currently in your ears and on rotation at the moment?
I recently saw Barry Manilow in Las Vegas and his back catalogue is just amazing. He’s such a talented songwriter and performer. Im listening to a lot soul music too.
What was your worst experience on stage? Any funny stories to share?
I got booked in London, when I started gigging at a Rock night and my music well is more pop. So In PVC, I rocked the stage singing out my pop tunes – luckily for me and my band the audience really liked it. Never underestimate your audience, A good song is a good song no matter what genre!
Got any fun, funny stories from life on the road?
Many especially on tour with McFly but I’ll save them for my book.
I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
My 2nd single from my debut album ‘Hotter Than A Heatwave ‘ just hit #8 on the iTunes Chart and is about the heat of being in love.
What was the recording process like?
I recorded it in North London with my producer Oscar Lo Brutto ( Wretech32) and it was really easy to put together and I really enjoyed laying d9wn the BV’s. I recorded The music video in Miami south beach and Malta. We had to use two locations as Miami was quite cloudy when we filmed so had to reshoot in Malta.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
No but the remixes that we just released give a fresh sound to the song. LGBTQIA+ artist Bright Light Bright Light ( Elton John, Cher) remixed the track and have the garage track a pop vibe to it that I love.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
The Album is coming out soon and can’t wait for you guys to hear it.
