JOHN POWER LIVE IN STOCKPORT – WHAT HAPPENED?

John Power, famous for being a member of two of Liverpool’s most well known indie bands, The LA’s and Cast played two consecutive sold-out shows at Stockport’s newest music venue.

Bask, which opened last year and is run by Benji Taylor is a cool venue that has hosted numerous famous faces since its launch night. Benji is certainly no stranger to the music industry as he is also the brainchild behind one of Manchester’s most well-known independent music festivals YANA (You Are Not Alone). The bar has recently launched its brand new menu, and is conveniently situated next to Stockport Train Station. All the information about forthcoming events can be found on their website here. The bar hosts a variety of events including Comedy nights, quiz nights, acoustic sessions, live bands and even bake sales (courtesy of Clint Boon and Mrs Boon!). I urge anyone who finds themselves in the vicinity to pop in and check its out.

Support on the evening came from Jace Campbell, a Manchester-based singer/songwriter who played a lengthy set that certainly had influences of the early 90’s Northern indie scene. It would be difficult to not make comparisons with both Gallagher brothers, as is clearly a talented songwriter. We were also treated to some covers, including Neil Young and the Stereophonics. Jace’s next song is released on the 31st of March and is called ‘What Will it Take?’.

The chairs had been cleared to get the maximum capacity for this hotly ticketed event. Indie fans flooded the vast floorspace, eagerly awaiting Mr Power to emerge. Power is unassuming and humble in his appearance, with minimum small talk he played a solid set of tracks from his solo career as well as a number of Cast songs, including ‘Walkaway’ and ‘Alright’. Power is a seasoned pro and interacts seamlessly with his audience. Power was in a relaxed mood and was clearly happy to be playing up north.

Power is currently in the middle of a sold out solo tour throughout March, with two London dates towards the end of April. I highly recommend you get down to one of these shows, you will not be disappointed!
