Jonny Blade 'Jack In The Box' - Single Review

Jonny Blade ‘Jack In The Box’ – Single Review

His second release of 2026, Jonny Blade is back with his second single of the year, just in time for festival season, ‘Jack In The Box’.

The track takes no time to kick off into that typical Kooks-ish indie-rock feel – a cheery clean-toned guitar riff backed by a steady groove and strong drums. I’m particularly a fan of the production on this one, which really stood out to me, each track feels very clear and bold in their own way without clashing

Lyric-wise, it feels like you’re sat alongside Jonny while he rants on about someone getting on his nerves. That conversational, tongue-in-cheek style particularly reminded me of Freddie Halkon’s lyricism, whom Jonny has previously supported. Much like Halkon, Jonny isn’t afraid to slag someone off, giving the song a funny, relatable edge.

At times, the drums and bass drops out momentarily, as if to let his gig crowds breathe for a second before getting back to bouncing, as they usually do at his gigs. The track rounds off with a tinny clear guitar solo before a brief bridge which follows the catchy chorus ‘You’re boooring’. I can already see his crowds singing this one with their fingers in the air

The track slots in perfectly with the rest of his tunes, Jonny’s got that distinctive songwriting style of his, especially with his typical indie whiny vocals.

Another strong one slotted right into his catalogue of indie festival tunes, he’s definitely on a roll with his consistent releases, treating his fans.
