Highly experienced singer-songwriter Julian Tcherassi is a musician trained in the arts of classical flamenco guitar music. Based in a city critical to music history, Tcherassi has enriched himself in the roots of Los Angeles. He has drawn upon icons like Pink Floyd and Jeff Buckley to influence his sound. You can expect intricate finger styles, powerful vocals and emotionally driven sounds and the latest showcase comes in the form of his newest single ‘Darkest Colors.’
The intricate finger patterns are evident immediately as they lay the foundation for the track. Gloomy vocals overshadow the guitars to give the track a sinister but intriguing introduction. The vocals pick up to really contrast the darker vocals which flow in sync with the flamenco guitars before fading out to allow the guitar solo to take over.
The guitar solo is a great display of Tcherassi’s musicality as the solo glides smoothly across the softer foundation. The track continues on a lighter note with harmonies that sooth the ears. A delicate instrumental decorates the centre of the track; seamlessly dancing up and down in rhythm.
A surprising build up presents itself towards the latter end of the track plateauing in a quicker melody than the rest of the song.
This isn’t the end of the changes though as you may think the track is over but one final instrumental sounds out the end of the track featuring a jazzier guitar solo. Overall, the track was a real medley of different rhythms, paces and pitches to make for an unpredictable listen.
