KORN LIVE IN HALIFAX – WHAT HAPPENED?

RGM continued their coverage of the very impressive summer Piece Hall line-up which has seen whole host of bands play at the Halifax Landmark. This evening that very landmark was shook to its ancient foundations by death metal band Korn.

Everything about this band screams nu-metal/death rock…if that is a thing, I have no idea, as I decided to enter into this experience raw, knowing only that it would be very fucking loud.

The stage setting was a massive sensory overload, flashing lights, some screen that slowly rose to reveal the band and a very snazzy purple Adidas tracksuit adorned by frontman Jonathan Davis which nearly stole the thunder from his Giger designed mic stand, affectionately know as ‘The Bitch’. I was pretty bitchin’ to be fair, I sort of want one now.

Having attended a fair few gigs at the Piece Hall over the last few years the crowds seem to get bigger each time, but tonight was different gravy…these fans were the most excited/loudest/enthusiastic/concerned for my own safety level of obsessed! As soon as the band ran onto the stage and started psyching themselves up, the crowed immediately began to lurch forward, with some people already falling over the barrier.

Their sound was incredible, even with ear plugs jammed well in I could still feel the force of it reverberating right through to my bones, quite unnerving when trying to take photographs too. The atmosphere was electric as the crowd were treated to a set list which included ‘Clown’, ‘Coming undone’ (which also had a tribute to Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ mid song, and a generous four track encore, ending the evening with ‘Freak on a Leash’.

If you are not usually listener of nu-metal, I would perhaps consider an exception for Korn as the whole experience was like goth theatre, a soul crushing electrifying 90 minutes of noise, so energetic it was quite exhausting to watch. If this sounds like your cup of tea then check out below where they’re headed next!
