When you can count the likes of Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq and John Kennedy as early supporters, you know you’re on to something good. Combining guttural grunge with elements of incendiary alt-rock, the trio have been setting stages a light up and down the country for several years, and in doing so have succeeded in winning over some of the UK’s biggest tastemakers.
And well they might. With comparisons to be made to both the riot grrrl movement, as well as more contemporary acts such as False Advertising, there’s a sense of both the timely and timeless. Something that has quite clearly caught the attention of London-based Xtra Mile Recordings, who showed the band’s recordings to Frank Turner who in turn offered the band a support slot at his recent Nottingham show. A show which led to the band signing a deal with Xtra Mile.
“We are completely over the moon to be joining the amazing Xtra Mile Recordings roster!” BERRIES explain “We have been following Xtra Mile and their bands since we started BERRIES and are huge admirers of their ethos and the way they run the label, it means so much to us to have them excited about our band and to have an incredible team to work with. We want to thank everyone as always for all of your continuous support, we can’t wait to get some new music out to you”.
It couldn’t have come to a more deserving band. And with new music not due until the new year, it gives anyone unfamiliar with BERRIES plenty of time to become familiar.
