Lucy Wentworth “Sledgehammer” Single Review

Lucy Wentworth “Sledgehammer” Single Review

Manchester singer songwriter Lucy Wentworth returns with her new single, Sledgehammer. Having been creating music for close to a decade, this latest release oozes maturity and a great class that she has continued to hone and improve through her plethora of singles and albums.

Sledgehammer follow a similar theme to what we have heard before from Wentworth but with a more polished feel to it. The emo influences which she has infused into her sound in the past are still present, and even take centre stage more than in the past, taking over the classic country tones.

As usual with her music, the thing that jumps out immediately in this new track is the passion that she can convey so beautifully. Aside from the beauty she has in her voice, what’s more impressive is how seemingly with every note she is able to put across a feeling of pure emotion, with mesmerising results.

What makes this track stand out against her back catalogue is the honesty that is packed into it. Its tempo is slowed right down and instrumentals are stripped back leaving a slightly eerie vibe, but one that allows her voice and lyrics to flourish unopposed. The result is a track which is equally as haunting as it is beautiful, a track which feels as though it comes straight from the heart through the speakers, as music should do.
