Matt Woodman ‘The Comeback’ – Single Review

Multi-faceted Matt Woodman can adapt and take on any genre in his stride to keep reinventing himself. He has genres under his belt ranging from indie pop and folk to synthwave and alternative rock. He’s really showing his depth across his 6 years of releases. For fans of The 1975 and Owl City this is the new Heywood hitmaker for you on the rise up.

Woodman is back with his first single of 2026 ‘The Comeback’, marking the beginning of his new project. The immediate opening to the track reminded me more so of the folky rock arrow to his genre bow. The riffs glide up and down succeeding a poppy drum beat to kick things off. Woodman has super soft soothing vocals that are gentle on the ears and relax you into the track.

The bridges before the choruses kick up the energy to oppose the atmosphere created by the verses which feels cleverly chosen to inspire hope and resilience described by a “comeback.” With lyrics like “take the time to look after yourself” in the choruses and “I’m gonna get the next time but the next time never comes back” in the verses, the differing emotions of the positives and negatives of challenges are well conveyed.

The track fades out with distorted vocals of the choruses to carry the hope to the end. This was a lovely, relaxing listen to introduce Matt Woodman in his new project, make sure you’re following along to hear the rest of the story.
