This bank holiday Sunday, Manchester music lovers will have the chance to support bands in a unique way. The Merch Market, brain child of Charlatans legend Tim Burgess will provide a fantastic opportunity for bands to sell their products with no commission taken from the venues.
This multi-venue event will see the likes of James Walsh, House of All, BMX Bandits, ACR, Dirty Laces, Chris Bridgett, and many more of our favourite bands from Manchester and beyond selling, and in some cases playing. Stars will be interviewed throughout the day amongst the live performances.
Great Marlborough Street that joins the participating venues will on Sunday be known as ‘The Tunnel of Love’ and some acts will be playing on a special stage under the railway bridge! You will also have an opportunity to visit Tim Peaks Coffee shop and to make the day even more magical, Terry Hall’s piano has been offered for musicians to use during the live sections.
The day will also provide an opportunity to pick up limited edition merch, including from Burgess’s stall, five Charlatans ‘Sproston Green’ sports bags on sale before they are available to pre-order! Due to tour commitments and other engagements, some bands such as Pulp, Stiff Little Fingers and Doves will be sending merch over to sell on the day.
Burgess has played a blinder here as I know that it the bane of many Bands when they have to give a percentage of all merch sales to venues and it is definitely something that does not sit well with many, especially grassroots bands who often use up every penny to get onto a tour. So get yourselves down to the Ritz and surrounding bars and venues on Sunday for what is sure to be a memorable bank holiday weekend. Further details can be found below! RGM cannot wait to get down and have a browse.
