Ocean Flaws – Spirit Level

Spirit Level’ is the second single from DIY alt-pop band Ocean Flaws. Based in Essex, this majestic quartet are known for their desirable synths, sing-along choruses and glistening guitar melodies. Living up to expectations, ‘Spirit Level’ is best described as an anthem.

Created just before Boris hit the country strict lockdown, the outfit were left in the shadows, not knowing when they’d be able to release the track and for it to get the full appreciation it deserves. Released October 23rd, the haunting arrangement comes just in time before Halloween.

Sparking an 80s influence throughout it’s colorful soundscape and melody, it’s infectious soundscape makes you want to dust your shoes off and hit a dance floor somewhere. Bathed in catchy lyrics, ‘I love the way you love me like you do” is playful and lets listeners resonate with their own story.

Releasing that’s simply impossible during a pandemic, your bedroom will have to do. The one thing that feels like could have been improved on is that the track get’s slightly repetitive after a while, and is screaming for another section.

Perhaps a bridge with a different chord progression would work, but saying that ‘Spirit Level’ will still find a way into your head and bury itself there for a while. Nevertheless, Spirit Level is a real treat and embarks on what seems like a vibrant future ahead for Ocean Flaws.
