PARK HAUS - LAX

Park Haus “LAX” – Single Review

“‘Lax’ means careless, slack, or not strict enough”. While this track is filled with passionate singing, relentless dreams and bright guitars, there is a sense of dread creeping amongst the seemingly jaunty melody, and that is the genius of the song.

The single, Lax is the second official release from the Manchester four-piece unit Park Haus since their debut with Survive in May. Different from the slightly rebellious grunge that is their debut, the band decided to lean back with this one. What remains is the lyricism that is close to the heart.

Lax speaks of a frustrated mind filled with regret after a failed relationship, retracing over one’s mistakes and grieving beautiful moments that were missed.

You can feel the pain from the chorus hook, ‘in another universe…’ as Jack (vocals) fantasizes all the “what ifs”. The upbeat guitars juxtaposing the heartwrenching confession makes the track evermore reverberating, as the listener gets carried into the delusions all together.

Jack mentioned in an interview that the track is about a breakup realization of a toxic relationship. I find it impressive how the band reimagined such an experience into their sound, and for how they showed that rather than loathe, they chose to move on, and to warmly embrace the emotions with a brisk of a tune that is Lax.
