RGM Interview with Conrad Ashton

You are really prolific bringing out new tunes, what drives that?

Mainly my enjoyment of doing it, I love making music and been in the studio environment and nothing better than getting a song idea and running with it whether it turns out good or bad the excitement is in the creative process. I also have this fire inside that makes me believe this is what I was born to do and in fairness, there is nothing else much in life I want to do except create music. I hope I can work with a solid label soon to hopefully take me to the next label and get me to a wider audience.

It’s been a bit of a wild last year, how have you managed to pass time and stay sane during lockdown?

Songwriting has been a great escape I have missed the gyms been open but managed to get a few runs in as well as be able to record a lot of new music fortunately I have had the money to do so and been very lucky studios have been allowed to stay open in this lockdown. I recently started a new 9 to 5 job too to fund the music stuff also I started that mid lockdown so that’s 40hrs a week gone!

How positive are you feeling now we are in 2021?

Very I believe there is finally light at the end of the tunnel I am hoping life will be normal soon and non of this new normal, get the masks burned and get back in the pubs and doing the things we love in life be that attending football games or shopping, holidays or whatever and the main one I am looking forward to playing LIVE!

How has 2020  effected your mental health?

I have up and down days anyway same as anyone but more so with the lockdown as has so many people but I have been blessed to have a great set of pals and we have been there for each other and got each other through all this some people haven’t got that I know so many people that I can drop a line too and have bit crack with I am so lucky and I just think I can’t complain in fairness. I made 2020  what I could and doing the same with this year with the new job and songs just about trying to be as positive and trying to spread some positivity too as best I can!

Whats one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?

Non really I always find interviews a privilege if someone gives a toss to bother listen to me and my music and then want s to ask questions I just get on with it and to this day I haven’t been asked anything offensive or stupid hahah

Tell us a funny story from backstage?

Always on my own and a bag of nerves so I don’t have one I am afraid haha

Name a four piece band made up of legends – who would be in it? (drummer, bass, lead singer etc)

Ginger Baker, Pete Townshend, Pino Palladino and Robert Plant. I think that would be pretty mad in a good way!

Who would you like to work with on the circuit right now?

Very hard to name one really many good acts out there right now I am open to anybody!

Right now, whats pissing you of the most? (Cant say the virus 🙂

Life not been normal which I guess is linked to the virus but aside from that no live shows I do feel it has very much stalled my career from a selfish point of view!

We recently reviewed your last single. How did you feel the review went?

Very well most kind what was said and I hope you like this even more!

I hear you have a new single brewing, what can you tell us about it?

It is a full band version of ‘those were the days’ which was on the EP no post on Sundays from aug 2020 I am really proud of it and Chris and mark my little team at Blank Studios have been marvellous bringing it to life

How was the recording process given the various restrictions the UK has been under of late?

Decent the virus hasn’t overshadowed the sessions like I feared it might it just normal as could be fortunately the studio is big anyway so you’re 2m apart anyway regardless of covid and there were only ever 3 of us there which was perfect. Sanitised obviously and used masks where appropriate but importantly it didn’t affect the music or overshadow any session which was marvelous there was no fear of it so to speak and not much talk on it all business and making music we never had symptoms any of us which I know isn’t everything but it does help peace of mind. So shoutout to Chris, Mark, and Blank studios for been amazing as always!

What are your plans for the year ahead

Hopefully keep the discussions going with independent labels and get more music out there and get back playing live and that is it just do what I love and allow no distractions to take me away from my dreams of getting as far as I can in this business

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Those were the days April 9th be there and share in this with me!
