Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
Ben – Hiya guys, thanks for having us.
Ste – Cheers folks
What made you decide to start the band?
Ben – For my it was my Dad, he was in a band called The Graduates in the 60’s so there was always a guitar in the house, it was only a matter of time before I picked it up and the rest is history, now I can’t stop.
Ste – I got blagged into it by our Phil (Bassist) when we finished school because he knew about 3 chords on the guitar and there was bugger all else to do! Best decision I ever made.
Introduce us all to the members and your musical history?
Ben – Well there’s myself, I play guitar and sing. We have Chris who plays lead and sings aswell, Phil on bass and Ste on drums. We have all been in numerous band previously and when the opportunity came about we jumped at the chance to work together.
Ste – Me & Phil had been in bands for about 4/5 years before we linked up with Chris then a few years later he introduced us to Ben and it’s been the 4 of us ever since
How much are you looking forward to playing live?
Ben – It’s the main reason I’m in a band, playing live is better than any drug, I can’t get enough of it and to be side-lined for so long has been painful. So yeah I’m very excited.
Ste – Mate I can’t even describe how much.. I can’t wait to be on that stage, no feeling like it
What advice would you give other artists starting out?
Ben – Make sure you do you. Don’t focus on things happening around you as long as you stick to what you believe in you will always enjoy the ride.
Ste – Practice as often as you can, believe in what you’re doing & enjoy it as much as possible, make sure you’re in it with some good mates too or they’ll get on your tits
Whats one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
Ben – How’s covid affected you, I don’t ever want hear that fucking word again.
Ste – I’m not usually allowed to talk so I’m just happy to be here
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?
Ben – I love a good conspiracy, don’t get my wrong, I don’t buy into any of the Bill Gates tracking me sort of bullshit, but aliens and free masons I’m all about that.
Ste – I couldn’t give a shit really to be honest, I don’t really care who built the pyramids or if fish are real. I’m not a deep thinker
What’s your favourite song right now from another band currently on the circuit?
Ben – A Good Foxy tune, I love ‘Don’t get it’ what a tune.
Ste – I’ll second that, full of bangers them lads or anything by Kid Kapichi.. ‘Thugs’ is a mint tune
What support is out there for new artists in Darwen ?
Ben – Gotta give a big mention to Sunbird Records here, we’ve worked together since the start, gave us our first gig and then signed us up to the label. They are at the centre of the Darwen music scene and a hell of alot for local scene.
Ste – Again, Sunbird is where it’s at for local music in Darwen, can’t fault the folks in there, on the way to being a major North West venue very soon.
Who is inspiring you at the minute on the Darwen unsigned scene?
Ben – The music scene is Darwen is thriving at the minute, so many great artists about, to name a few… Fighting Rhythm, Teri Birtwistle, Haig, Waltz Away, to many to mention.
Ste – All the above, Fighting Rhythm are ruthless mate you gotta check em out & Teri is just Teri man.. she’s been class for time.
If your fans could remember one thing about you what would it be?
Ben – Our live shows, the have a tendency to get a little out of hand, a gig usually ends with half the audience on stage with us.
Ste – Volume, sweat & a great night.. from both us and them
What useless party trick /talent do you have/?
Ben – When I was younger I was right into magic, I still know a few fucking terrible tricks.
Ste – If you give me 20 quid I’ll make it disappear
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
Ben – Darwen Live Festival is always a good one for us, hight of summer, venues packed to the rafters and everyones off their tits. Those gigs are always fun.
Ste – Too many to mention.. anytime on stage with these lads is an absolute blast
What was the worst experience on stage?
Ben – We once played a gig on a Thursday night in Burnley, which we forgot we were playing so we didn’t announce it. We played to one pissed local who just shouted abuse and asked for oasis songs, that was hilarious.
Ste – Any show with a wank sound engineer, that gig in Burnley was awful too but a bit of a laugh like.. also used an electric drum kit once and that was soul destroying
Tell us something about each member that you think people would be surprised about?
Ben – Wow, difficult question, summet surprising about myself, erm… I’m a closet Southerner, born in Devon raised in Lancashire.
Ste – All my organs still work.. I think that’s pretty fucking surprising
If you had to describe your band to an alien how would you describe them?
Ben – Fucking loud, big tunes and alot of dancing!
Ste – You’ll have to listen to find out pal.. and bring your mates n’all
Which one of the band is the most unpredictable and why?
Ben – That would be Steven, who know what that lads gunna do next, kicked his drums into bits before a gig was over once and blames it on being his birthday!
Ste – Well If you can’t volley your kit across Preston on your birthday then you can’t do fuck all can you?
Which one of the band is the biggest nightmare? (Just a bit of fun)
Ben – I’d probably say myself, I can be abit of a primandona at times, everything has to be perfect or I lose it.
Ste – They all get on my tits but I love them like brothers
You have one phone call and you have been locked up for a crime you didn’t commit? Which member would you call first?
Ben – 100% not Chris, if he answers your phone call you’d be fucking lucky, I’d say Steven, he has the gift of the gab to get me off and he would be the most reliable to answer.
Ste – Deffo not Chris fucking hell! Lad get pissed off if someone rings him when he’s in the bath.. tough one this.. probably Phil cos he’d have no one to cover at work so he’d have to get me out.
What makes you stand out as a band?
Ben – I know it sound cliche but Id have to say our songs, we crafted an individual sound and I’m proud of that.
Ste – Good atmosphere, good musicians, good sound.. Dunno really just a positive vibe all round from us I think and I think people like that
Tell us about a time when you had a proper reyt laugh while you were all together?
Ben – Any time we are in a room together, it’s none stop laughter, there’s abit of a thing at the moment where we all come up with alternative lyrics to our songs, some of the shit we’ve come up with is ridiculous, couldn’t be repeated.
Ste – I love rewording a hard thought lyric haha! Like I said before anytime on stage, at rehearsal or in the pub these boys have me in stitches all the time
Tell me about your new single and how it came about?
Ben – This is the first single off our debut album that we started working in earlier this year, plan is to get 3 out before the albums release. As for meaning the song is about the loss of a loved one, it’s pretty fucking depressing to be honest but the music evens it out.
Ste – Ben wrote a banger and everyone helped make it ours so yeah.. maybe go with what he said
What are your plans for the year ahead ?
Ben – Do as many gigs as humanly possible and get this album finished and out to the world
Ste – And have a fucking ace time doing it cos it’s been a shite time for a long time and it’s now time to change that
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Ben – ‘I Need Anaesthetic’ the new single from Anhedonia out 18th of June on all major streaming services. We will also be celebrating its release with gig at Darwens finest Sunbird Records on the 25th of June so come on down
Ste – Birds are real & built the pyramids, do your fucking research
