Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide to start the band?
Anti Honey started up like any band starts up really; boredom, a flash of inspiration and a crippling anxiety that you’re doing nothing with your life and something needs to change right now.
Introduce us all to the members and your musical history?
So on guitars, vocals, synths, programming and drum parts is James Kitchen. James has limited knowledge of the software he uses to create the music, a basic grasp of instrumental and vocal skill and a misinformed view that people care about what he has to say. He used to be in other bands but now is only doing this.
It’s been a bit of a wild last year, how have you guys managed to pass time and stay sane during lockdown?
I’m not one hundred per cent sure i have stayed sane tbh, I’ve listened to every song the Fall have ever recorded- that is reason enough to drive anybody to the edge.
How positive are you feeling now restrictions are loosening?
I’m mixing over the top positivity with a healthy dose of realistic cynicism, I mean there is no way in hell it’s going back to normal that quickly. But I’m allowed to hug me mum now so that’s something.
How has 2020 effected your mental health?
Well, I didn’t have sex for nearly all of it so you tell me.
How much are you looking forward to playing live?
Buzzing for it mate, my mates want to play my songs with me so that’ll be fun. Can’t imagine anyone’s gonna be at any gigs considering the state of the nations collective mental health but honestly, shouting into an empty room will probably do wonders for my own head.
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?
9/11 was an inside job, Courtney killed Kurt and Ian Brown is a prick.
What’s your favourite song right now from another band currently on the Chester circuit?
Angry Machine by Pint + Blister
What support is out there for new artists in chester ?
The guys at Live Rooms seem to really care about it. David Weir books amazing lineups every year to get new bands some great recognition. A couple of good local radio services, an impossible-to-find but really awesome rehearsal space. It’s a very small town so it’s not much but everyone is lovely so that’s something.
Who is inspiring you at the minute on the Chester unsigned scene?
White Mammoth blow my fucking head off. Peaness have some great songs. Ennio the Little Brother is a madman. Campfire Social bring the joy. Sustinere have a massive sound for a two piece and have steered away from just being the next Royal Blood, love how they improve with every release. Pint + Blister are dicks for not letting me play bass with them.
What useless party trick /talent do you have/?
I have no talents.
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
Being a rockstar for half an hour at my previous bands last show and doing crowdsurf and covering Nick Cave because we fucking could.
What was the worst experience on stage?
The guitarist of said previous band got so drunk that he smashed his guitar up three songs into a set at a gig in Warrington that was fun
Tell us something about each member that you think people would be surprised about?
It might surprise you that James Kitchen has shat himself probably five times in his adult life. Or maybe it won’t surprise you whatsoever.
If you had to describe your band to an alien how would you describe them?
Which one of the band is the most unpredictable and why?
I’d say out of all our members maybe James Kitchen is the most unpredictable.
Which one of the band is the biggest nightmare? (Just a bit of fun)
He’s also the biggest nightmare. Ask anyone.
You have one phone call and you have been locked up for a crime you didn’t commit? Which member would you call first?
Honestly if I could call myself I wouldn’t cos I’d get myself in more shit than I was already in.
Right now, whats pissing you of the most? (Cant say the virus 🙂
The r, t, f, g, c and v keys don’t work on my laptop so I’ve had to do this interview as a Facebook message on my phone and then copy and paste it over
Tell us about a time when you had a proper reyt laugh while you were all together?
I legitimately make myself laugh on a daily basis, I am fucking hilarious.
Whats your favourite song to play live and why?
Anti Honey have never played live. I’m looking forward to playing the single…
I hear you have a new single brewing, what can you tell us about it?
That was a good link. It’s called I Hate Music, it’s backed up with Beta Music, they both were recorded in my room whilst being mixed and mastered by the incredible Nathan Davies of Pint + Blister and Bed + Shed Studios. And they’re both about how music is the best and worst thing in my life.
How was the recording process given the various restrictions the UK has been under of late?
Got me a mic, an amp, a geet and an interface. Anyone can do this shit. Who even is Steve Albini
What are your plans for the year ahead
Move to Bristol
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Take everything I say and sing about drastically seriously.
