Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide to start a band / become an artist?
Selina: Shut husband up moaning that he couldn’t get a drummer for his band a few years ago.
Chris: Watching The Beatles in their film Help when I was 12 years old at that point I realised being in a band was the greatest possible human endeavour
Whats one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?
Selina: “Whats it like being woman in music” that gets on my tits. Just the question forces us into a pair of pink ballet shoes.
Chris: I’m just happy anyone wants to talk to us and ask questions to be honest. The ageist and sexist agenda starts to slip in every now and again but I give those questions no oxygen to breathe. The industry is awash with that stuff without us adding to it.
You come across really opinionated online, we like that, where does that come from?
Chris: I guess that’s from me as I do all the social media stuff. I don’t think we’re too opinionated I try to have some fun with it but I will say what I think, I always have and will. This band is a force for good and inspiration and our message needs to be out there so I have no plans changing or toning down what we tweet or post any day soon. Fuck em.
Which one is the biggest pain in the arse? (Lateness, forgets stuff etc.
Selina: The biggest pain in the arses is clearly Lawson and Bridgett always expecting me to be on time but I love them both none the less.
Chris: Yes I’m the biggest pain in the arse but I’m never late the lasses are are constant source of joy and fun … in my eyes BUT never on time. They both only appear in half of the video for “Be My Sunshine” because they showed up way late for filming so I told the director to crack on without them, that’s what happens you’re late you miss the bus.
What good bands are coming out of Manchester at the minute?
Selina us
Chris wouldn’t like to say it should be which bands do you think will still be standing once this Covid shit is done .. if that was the question I’d say US !!
What useless talent do you have/ party trick?
Selina: Open bottle of beer with lighter I know it’s not special in itself but I have perfected the skill down the years
Chris: I have no talents, talent is over rated and a hindrance to success as far as I can see
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
Selina every single time is the most fun even the times covered in next question.
Chris: fun every time we play is fun when you get to see us you’ll see that with Cold Water Swimmers it’s definitely about the performance and enjoying what we do is at the heart of that.
What was the worst experience on stage?
Selina: Nearly falling off back of the stage, breaking drum kit mid-set, hitting myself in the face with drum sticks mid-set drummer stuff like that.
Chris it’s all just experience at the end of the day neither good nor bad those are just labels. That or they’ve been so bad I’ve blocked them out !
What advise would you give your younger selfes?
Selina: Don’t over think it
Chris: just keep going you are good enough and fuck what other people think, it doesn’t matter … stuff like that.
What makes you stand out as a band?
Selina : We are fucking ace
Chris Obviously 2 women 1 fella is an unusual line up esp with the women taking drums and bass and not vocals we’re a male fronted power trio how many of them do you know of …
Carrie: What Chris says but also Chris’s songs are so strong that helps us stand out too that and as Selina says, we’re ace!
Whats pissing you off right now?
Selina: Had a bit of a session last night and now the room won’t stop spinning
Chris: the government, the covid, the trump, our impending demise why the fuck are Cold Water Swimmers not getting any 6Music love but really I try not to get pissed off about things I have no control over, it’s not healthy and there’s fuck all I can do about it!
Best Drink to Have on Stage?
Selina: Beer and water
Chris: just water usually when I have a beer onstage it’s still there at the end I hardly ever remember to take a swig …
Carrie: Champagne or Guinness
I hear you have a new single brewing, what can you tell us about it?
Chris: Yes we’ve released two tunes so far this year, Be My Sunshine and Breaking Hearts the next one we’ve just about finished is called So Young it was written after a very vivid dream about an ex girlfriend ( don’t let that put you off) and paints a picture of life in early lockdown in April when the sun was shining and the whole shit fest was still young, it’s the best thing we’ve ever done at 154 BPM
Carrie: I think Chris is a great songwriter but this one is especially good great lyrics and a cracking chorus. I think it’s out at the end of this year or the start of next.
Anything else to share?
Selina: I’m really hung over and have plans to never drink again
Chris: I’m not a fan of Christmas and birthdays and did you know as a band we have 9 children between the 3 of us ….
Carrie: If I told you I’d have to kill you xx
