RGM Introducing – Hunter-Gatherer

Here at RGM Introducing we love nothing better than meeting and getting to know new bands, here is our interview with Hunter-Gatherer . This is class.

Hiya lads so what’s the music scene like around your end?

Around Ryedale where we are based, it’s not too bad. Plenty of active bands about but the crowds are way more welcoming of cover bands. For us, York and Leeds are considered our locals scenes and have lots going on underground. Leeds has been especially good to us.

Which band member is the biggest pain in the arse? And Why?

Tough one. Probably Bron, “asbestos mouth”, Bury. If he doesn’t have a cup of tea at hand, he can get proper grumpy.

Saying that – Kris isn’t great without his coffee…

Which one is always late? Tell me about it

In all honesty, we’re all pretty prompt. However, Sam has a knack of disappearing off the radar for a week and reemerging with some new tunes and no memory of where he has been.

What was the most fun you have had on stage?

Potentially Headlands Festival last summer. There was something very special and organic about that gathering and the crowd was wild. Another one would be the Fulford Arms in York. We played a headline show there in July 2019 and we filmed the evening for the music video of our single, Move.

What was the worst experience on stage?

We played a festival last summer where our entire set was accompanied by the worst mic feedback. The sound engineers looked on perplexed, unsure whether to venture from their sound booth and investigate or blame one another for the issue. Hey-ho, it’s all character building.

What drives you as a band?

Making our craft a full-time profession. We take great pride in what we do, and we live for this.

If you could delete one band from the history of the Universe, who would it be & why?

Delete? Hmmm. We’re not about to burn any bridges so we’ll flip it and tell you the name of one band we definitely wouldn’t delete: FREEK.

If you could go back to the very moment you learnt your instruments, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Life isn’t a race. Enjoy every second of it and things will fall into place when both you and the universe are ready.

Right now, what’s pissing you off the most?

Potholes and the Tories: both are massive pains in the backside that continue to find new ways of getting us down every day.

What’s the best biscuit?

Chocolate digestives. Dunk that sh*t and your day immediately becomes 200% better.

Tell me about your last single and how it came about?

Our latest single ‘Run My Mind’ has been described as “a full-on raucous thing this release from Hunter-Gatherer. It pulls no punches in the slightest. Right from the raw guitar intro you know what you’re in for, loud dirty guitar and boy do you get that.”.

It’s a bit of a fuck you to the likes of that big baby in the White House and co-parts in the U.K, saying we see through it and yeah its ‘as crazy as it seems’.

You look like you are working hard on the bands brand, your website is slick, you engage with your fans on the socials, how important is it to you to build on this?

One of the most important aspects of the band for us is building the brand, trying to keep people interested in all forms of media. It’s a real struggle but so key at the same time. On the flip side though, it’s so easy talking to people and engaging with fellow music lovers that have a shared interest. Fans are friends!

Tell us a funny story from a previous tour? A mad one.

Maybe not so mad, but we played one gig that during the set we got everyone to crouch down, including ourselves, then afterwards we were going to get everyone to jump up. (That old chestnut!) The audience did it as well as you’d expect, but Sam (Lead singer and guitarist) managed to trip over the mic stand and himself on the way back up, knocking the mic and again, himself over, creating a massive bang on the PA.

I looked back at Bron expecting him to be annoyed but he and everyone else found it hilarious – thankfully ????

Your new tour looks like it’s shaping up nicely, what will we expect to see?

A big, elephantine show. It might get loud. (It will…)
