RGM Introducing – Lina and the Lions

Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

What made you decide to become band?

– Lee and I met in a pub as teenagers. I did the songwriting and singing, Lee played bass, co-wrote and produced music. We decided to become a band because it felt like the right thing to do. We needed to combine our powers to create a magnificent force of music to bring people together and to put out some much needed positivity into the world.

Introduce us all to the members?

Lina and the Lions is myself Lina – Singer, Bassist and Songwriter, working with Lee – multi-instrumentalist/producer. For live performances we are joined by Ash on Guitar, Abbi on Drums and Megan on Backing Vocals.

What have you been doing during lock down to progress the band?

During lockdown we lost our minds for a little bit (didn’t we all?) Then we went ahead and wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered a new album! It ended up being our most productive time yet as a band.

How has it been coming from Sheffield in a band recently?

Recently it doesn’t matter where you come from (Which of course is both a good and bad thing).  We love playing in our hometown but right now during these times we are reaching out online to people all around the world.

What support is out there for new artists in Sheffield ?

We are new so the support that we have had so far has been from community radio such as Sheffield Live and of course BBC introducing Sheffield. Great platforms for new artists to get heard. Of course going to see bands live and chatting to them and their mangers about support slots is also helpful but we have to wait until live music is up and running again to do that.

Who is inspiring you at the minute?

Switchfoot. They are a San Diego based band. They have created so much content and spread so much hope and positivity through their music during these hard times. They connect with their audience completely. They make everyone feel like a community and a family. Also they are hands on with everything that they do and it’s honest and quality. We aspire to do the same.

If your fans could remember one thing about you what would it be?

That we are always there for them.  We will be putting music out every month this year and we have no intention of stopping there.

What useless talent do you have/ party trick?

I have a SUPERfluous amount of knowledge when it comes to Superman trivia.

Lee is seemingly immune to brain freeze. Seriously we have tried everything!

What was the most fun you have had on stage?

Nothing like your first “REAL” gig. It was at the cockpit in Leeds Supporting Nashville Artist Josh Doyle. I was Buzzing!!

What was the worst experience on stage?

I have honestly never had a bad time on stage.

Tell us something about each member that you think people would be surprised about?

I wrote my first song when I was 5 years old. My gramma was convinced that everyone was taught a song every week at kindergarten. We weren’t! So I improvised my first hit so as not to disappoint her.”

Lee, never wanted to be a musician. He wanted to be a basketball player until he broke his Knee when he was 15. He then bought his first bass guitar that summer.

Ash, no one punches marshmallows better than Ash!

Megan, She is the creator and owner of the best Gingerbread man costume in the world.

Abbi has an incredible talent for wardrobe coordination. Seriously she tells everyone in the band what to wear.

Tell us a funny story from backstage?

It’s funny when you choose a song as a play on for your set then you hear that same song on the radio whilst on the toilet. And you literally scream cause you think that you are missing the start of your own gig. Why does that keep happening to me?

Who would you like to work with on the circuit right now?

People I would like to work with… If it was to be a collaboration I would be really interested to see what I can lay down with THE ACES. Their writing really leans into old school pop. I dig that. If it was on tour it would be the 1975. So that I could watch that kickass production every night after my set.

What advice would you give someone going into the music industry?

My advise would be the same to anyone looking to do anything. Know exactly what you want, ask what you can do for the world. Work hard. Don’t stop. Be excellent.

What advise would you give your younger selfs ?

Be kinder and tougher on myself.  I would relieve myself from other peoples expectations and be tougher on my self to pursue something meaningful.

What makes you stand out as a band?

In a time where things seem so dark, it’s almost hard to see what is coming tomorrow. We want to be a glittering, screaming siren reminding people that there is still time for love and second chances.

Right now, whats pissing you of the most? (Cant say the virus 🙂

That there aren’t another 8 seasons of Cobra Kai for me to watch RIGHT NOW! I am serious! I want this show to keep going until I see Johnny Lawrence’s great great grandkids competing in the The All Valley Karate Tournament.

Tell us about a time when you had a proper reyt laugh while you were all together?

On the live video shoot we rehearsed and shot the video over two days.  Millie the cameraman kept putting the open Dominos garlic dip back in the pizza lid, every time someone reached for a slice it went everywhere! We had to mop the floor at least five times that day! the stink never left! The next day we had to convince Dominos to not include the free dip!

Whats your favourite song to play live and why?

There is a hidden track on the upcoming album. I can’t tell you the name of it but it’s really short, like two verses long. We ran it in rehearsals and I basically just get to scream my head off for two minutes! I love the energy.

I hear you have a new single brewing, what can you tell us about it?

We have always got a single brewing! We will be realising 10 in total this year. We’ve already kicked things off in 2021 with “This Fire”. We will be announcing details of February’s single at the end of January.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

To Paraphrase Freddie Mercury “I would like to hug each and every one of you.”

When live music returns, we are coming for you!
