RGM Introducing – Scarlet

Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

How have you been since Jessie joined us for a RGM Live stream back in full lockdown?

Laura – Still working, which is great- but there is always the worry of but for how long!?  Obviously, in such uncertain times, it can be stressful. However, we’re trying to make the most of a bad situation. And release new content and try and gain a bigger audience from social media instead of playing shows.

How do you think the government have looked after the night time economy / live gig circuit?

Adam – I don’t know where to begin when it comes to this government. Embarrassing.

Laura – Terribly. With a lack of empathy, knowledge and a disregard for people livelihoods.

Cai – 3 words. Absolutely fucking terribly.

What’s one question you’re sick of being asked when interviewed?

Laura – ‘How would you describe your sound’

Adam – Having to talk about tories

Jessie – ‘Whats it like being in a band as a girl/with a girl’

What do you think of the recent restrictions brought in in the merseyside area?

Laura – Not very well thought out. There needs to be a better furlough scheme for people in the affected areas by the lockdowns. The cost of daily life hasn’t gone down with the wage decrease.

Cai – I understand some, and I am highly highly frustrated by others, having seen how well my climbing gym has been on top of covid guidelines and how respectful of the guidelines the people have been around the gym, it absolutely kills me knowing you can still queue up like a knob head in Primark, and claim you are all from one household in a gang of six in spoons, but I can’t go and keep myself to myself and train in a climbing gym, keeping things clean and allowing for safe distances. I feel very sorry for all the businesses that have been nailing the rules and respecting the guidelines and are now having to shut wondering whether they will ever open again.

Adam – I’m expecting a big flood of scousers using manchester as their night out since it’s the closest option, which will then lead to Manchester being in ‘tier 3’

Jessie – What they need to do, is keep everyone at home, and mass test EVERYONE and keep the infected out of circulation as China did… the restrictions are totally pointless when the universities colleges and schools are still open, and it’s not the kid’s fault like some people are saying, Its Johnson – he has sent them all back, the kids don’t know any better, they’re living their lives as they should! Johnson knows all this, he’s so manipulative and knows exactly what he’s creating with each decision and ‘mistake’ he makes… Grrrr… Don’t get me into it.

What is the unsigned scene in Liverpool / St Helens like at the minute?

Cai – The Liverpool unsigned rock scene personally I think has been dead for years. Liverpool has not been good for rock bands I don’t believe for a while. But that’s just my opinion, it may be thriving in underground areas I have no clue about! And if I’ve been missing something, then I want in!

Laura – There is no inclusion with each other really. People are taking to performing online on their own social media formats and doing their own thing as it’s hard for artists to collaborate without promoters bringing them together and to create a multi artist online event is reliant on people with the experience needed.

Jessie – If you’re not in that inner circle, look elsewhere mates!

What good bands are coming out of Liverpool / St Helens at the minute?

Jessie – Erm… us? haha

Who is inspiring you at the minute?

Laura – Zefur Wolves

Adam – Biffy Clyro’s new album is amazing. I’ve been listening to a lot of Sgt pepper/mystery tour too

Jessie – at this moment in time, Beabadoobe, Dua Lipa, Hayley Williams, Delilah Bon, forever Avril Lavigne and the pumpkins.

Cai – For me, the classic, the cliche, Dave Grohl since I was a kid has always inspired me, to this day. But in terms of smaller bands, I really enjoy following Dinosaur pile up from Sheffield, I absolutely love everything they are about. It’s just fucking straight-up rock music. And they are smashing it. Oh and of course our one true lord and savior Jack Black.

If your fans could remember one thing about you what would it be?

Cai – That I just wanna create genuinely, kick-ass, rock music.

Laura – Energetic performances.

Adam – The man with the best mane (hair) in all the land. Who then did a Britney and chopped it all off due to a worldwide pandemic. 2020 summed up

Jessie – That I really REALLY fucking care about every single one of them

What useless talent do you have/ party trick?

Jessie – I can do the mexican wave with my eyebrows.

Laura – I have double jointed thumbs!

Adam – I can hold my breath longer than you can

Cai – My useless talent would be being absolutely hilarious, but it’s useless because nobody agrees with me

Jessie – Cai, I agree with you… ABOUT NOBODY AGREEING WITH YOU.

What was the most fun you have had on stage?

Laura – Supporting Hands Off Gretel. Really good crowd. Everyone was bouncing.

Cai – The Leeds Brudenell gig we did just before lockdown which I just felt was such an awesome gig.

What was the worst experience on stage?

Laura – I haven’t had one… yet. I’m sure I’ll be hungover onstage at some point.

Adam – I don’t think I can say the real one hahaha. I have a habit of snapping strings at the worst time though..

Jessie – My worst experience on stage was Adams ‘real one’ haha

Tell us something about each member that you think people would be surprised about?

Laura – Jessie is actually lefty but plays guitar as a righty. Cai is studying to become an architect. Adam is a music teacher.

Adam – Jessie has the world’s biggest hands. Cai is the king of climbing the rocks. Laura is the scousiest scouser I’ve ever heard.

Jessie – I don’t think people would be surprised by my facts really, but Cai is incredibly sweet and thinks things over really carefully, he’s suuuuper smart, and you wouldn’t think that of a bongo man, but he really is very in tune with people. Oh and he carries a box of ‘emergency nesquick’ and a litre of milk in his backpack everywhere he goes HAHA Adam is the most loyal and upfront person you will ever meet in your life and he has such a big heart if you’re his friend he will be with you forever. His car has broken down at least 200 times haha. Laura can definitely out drink both boys, and is the most powerful female I’ve ever met, she takes ZERO shit, and she makes me feel empowered beyond belief and she has a metal wrist from falling off the back of a motorbike… She’s completely hardcore.

We still aren’t sure if Adam actually owns his own fully working guitar ????

Jessie has got serious drive like nobody else and a very serious business head on her shoulders, people may assume her only job is to just be this awesomely talented glamorous frontwoman, but she is pure power. The engine and the driving force behind everything we do.

Jessie – ‘…. nice one Cai, ill drop you your tenner later

Best drink to have on stage?

Adam – Schofferhofer!!!

Laura – BEER.

Cai – Schufferhoffer! Oh and water

Jessie – I am the lameo in the band- I don’t really drink, so… I’m gonna say…. anything with a ton of sugar in to keep me standing haha.

What goes into your favorite sandwich?

Cai – Jalapeños!

Adam – Does a calzone count?

Jessie – I don’t really like bread you know… but if i HAD to eat a sandwich id have Vegan grated cheese and pickle… I fucking love pickles me.

Laura – Veggie patty, Cheese, chipotle sauce, pickles & salad.

What advice would you give someone going into the music industry?

Laura – Don’t compare yourself to other bands or musicians. Don’t get down on yourself when you’re feeling like it’s hard work, and don’t get an ego when it’s going well.

Cai – It’s fucking ruthless. Nobody cares about you until you have something to offer. Drive and grind and do not stop. Knockdown doors and build bridges. Make yourself known, but don’t be a prick. Put yourself out there, and if what you’ve got is good, people will follow.

Oh and take out a second mortgage because this shit is expensive.

Adam – Don’t give up. No matter what

Jessie – Friendship is the most important thing above all other things.
Recognise everyones worth and don’t think that because you’re a fantastic musician that gives you some automatic right to be an arse or a ticket to fame and the world should be handed to you on a plate because it definitely won’t be, you’ll just lose out on good friends and opportunities. You’ll get nowhere without making effort to be a good person with everyone that shows you kindness and finally if this is really what you want to do, be prepared to GRAFT hard and as adam said – don’t give up when things get hard.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Cai – Practice, and make as much money as you can with any spare hours you can get. Because one day you are gonna wanna record an album and invest more sensibly in the right drum equipment so you don’t end up trying to find storage for 4 kits because you keep changing your mind on the type you REALLY want.

Adam –  Keep going. Don’t give up

Laura – Practice more.

Jessie – Don’t be afraid of saying ‘no’ – and to tell people to ‘fuck off’ if necessary – Say both these phrases as often as you feel them. Be more sure that you’re right.

What’s your biggest achievement as a band?

Cai – I’d say the band’s trip to Korea.

Adam – Yeah, playing in Seoul was amazing

Laura – Releasing our 1st single and getting 16,000 plays in 5 months.

Jessie – Surviving this lockdown stuff and carrying on online regardless of the massive obstacle that is a killer virus being thrown at us… I think we as a group of people, are amazing for that.

What makes you stand out as a band?

Laura – The songs are really catchy, and our intense energy when we perform.

Adam – The tunes and the hair of course

Jessie – I think we come across to our fans as friendly. I think that makes us stand out. We try to talk to everyone in the room. So many bands just leave after they play, I’m not gonna lie, back in the day, we did that too, but we’ve learnt and grown so much, I think the people who have been with us from the start can see that path of progression and I think that makes us stand out…

Cai – We are genuine in everything we do. Our image lets us stand out, the dynamic between the 2 girls and us 2 guys I think is really special. We just want to make our mark as fucking great people and passionate musicians, put smiles on people’s faces and songs in people’s heads. We are always trying to do something new, interesting, and different, but in such a saturated market it’s a hard thing to do for anyone.

Right now, what’s pissing you off the most? (Can’t say the virus 🙂

Adam – Manchester United not being top of the table.

Laura – Not being able to meet up, practice and gig. See friends and family.

Cai – Yeah, the fact all we want to do is get into a practice room and play music. And we can’t right now. We want to fund the recording of the rest of our music, but we can’t right now, and I really wanted a kick ass cooked breakfast, but I woke up late. So i can’t have one right now.

Jessie – Life… But it’s really good when you’re creative to be pissed off at life… I think that could be the key you know? I can’t half write a tune when I’m angry. Such an emo.

Tell us about a time when you had a proper reyt laugh while you were all together?

Cai – On our first studio photoshoot together, it was a brilliant evening! Oh, and when we traveled across the country to record our latest tracks and we all had to share a single hotel room. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much with these guys.

Adam –  Our last gig was so good, the schofferhofer was in full flow

Laura – Yeah our last gig was in London right before lockdown. We made the most of it, as we knew everything was about to close. We ended up at a disco night. We danced until the morning, then had to drive back up north. That wasn’t such a reyt good time.

Jessie – Yeah, that was immense, we stayed out til daft o clock even though we had nowhere to stay and work in the north the next day, we all had that feeling that we wouldn’t get that again for a while so we just all danced together – it was awesome.

Whats your favourite song to play live and why?

Cai – I love playing Who Left The Iron on, there is something about the flow of that track that I just find so fluid and dreamy to play through live, its brilliant.

Adam – Don’t have a specific, but I love playing any new tunes

Laura – Heavy! It’s the opening track & it’s a good one to thrash around to. It’s a great one to get into the swing of things.

Jessie – I like playing the new ones too, i love seeing people recognising the new stuff.

We recently reviewed your last single. How did you feel the review went?

Laura – Great, fair! Thank you!

Adam – I love you guys!

Tell me about your new single and how it came about?

Jessie – Bring me down came about via a brewing of RAGE. It’s essentially the result of an internal kickoff. We all added so much to that tune. Even the day when we were recording it was still growing in the studio- I was developing lyrics while Cai was in recording his drums and Ads and Laura were going over riffs.

Adam – It was an old idea that we expanded on and I tried to add what i could to help it grow. Everyone worked hard on it and I’m proud of Bring Me Down

Laura -We all jammed together on it to create the finished product. It’s nice to have a bit of creativity from everyone there.

Cai – If you are talking about the track we just released, then you may already know… but with the next track… I’m not sure if I’m really supposed to talk about it yet. But the middle 8 is just the highlight of everything so far that i have recorded with Scarlet. It just fucking kicks like an angry horse.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Cai – Schofferhoffer, I feel it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, more places need that tasty tasty grapefruit beer.

Jessie – Can somebody get these guys a Schoffer endorsement!?

Laura – Id say check out our new single on all streaming platforms!

Jessie – Oh Yeah! That! Definitely do that! Also – Keep your chins up. its all gonna pass and we will all be ok.

Adam – I know Boris is a nob so let’s all stick together and get through this shit show the best we can.
