RGM Introducing – Solar Parachute

Hiya folks take a seat, what made you decide to start a band?

Solar Parachute was more like a studio project at the start. I have a musical background, I’ve played music professionally since I was fifteen, always divided my time between session work and creative projects with bands. Even if I am naturally a social person and I love to collaborate with others, I also always wrote stuff on my own. At some point I just decided to put those songs into a project and give this material a chance. So, I came up with a first EP. That’s how I started it. It’s a solo project but on stage I am happy to have my friends with me to play.

Introduce us all to the members, how did the band get together?

My name is Gaet Allard, French, London based, drummer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, cheese lover and I sometimes wear an astronaut suit on stage.

What is the unsigned scene in London like at the minute?

Pretty quiet in terms of gigs at the minute :). But, London is normally always full of opportunities, it’s a big city with lots of creative people to meet and lots of places to perform, it’s a great place to grow up as a band.

What good bands are coming out of London at the minute?

Black Palms is a great one, I also recently discovered St Agnes they sound really cool.

What’s your favourite song right now from another band?

Little Monster by Royal Blood.

Who is inspiring you at the min?

Musically: Jacob Collier, Royal Blood, Louis Cole, Georgia, Blood Red Shoes, Bloc Party.

What was the most fun you have had on stage?

I had the opportunity to play in the “Zenith” of Nantes (France) which is the biggest concert hall of my hometown. I was sharing the stage with my good friends and my family was in the audience, a great moment in my musical career.

What was the worst experience on stage?

Can’t think of anything really bad and there is always something to learn when something goes wrong on stage. As a drummer, I’ve had all kinds of surprises during performances like losings sticks, destroying skin heads or drums pedals, I even fell off of stage once. As long as you keep a big smile on stage – it’s all good. The worst experiences come when there are emotional tensions between band members. That can lead to bad performances.

Tell us something about a member that you think people would be surprised about?

The drummer plays too loud … (but don’t tell him ;))

Four-piece band made up of legends – who would be in it? (drummer, bass, lead singer etc)

Why not a female power trio? Beyoncé on drums, Bjork on keys, Pj Hearvey on guitar And all of them singing of course!

If you could play any music festival which would it be?

Best gig you’ve been to that you weren’t playing?

Blood Red Shoes in Paris.

What goes into your favourite sandwich?

12 types of cheeses

What advice would you give someone going into the music industry?

Do your thing, never give up, every musical path is different.

What advice would you give your younger selfs

Exactly the same thing actually. Don’t listen to other people (especially the negative) too much, just create your own path.

Whats your biggest achievement as a band?

Moving Solar Parachute from the Paris scene to the London scene was a big one.

What makes you stand out as a band?

Tricky question… I guess I have a pro session drummer skills background, I also sing and play different instruments. But what I really like to do is compose and produce indie music with a funny vibe.

Right now, whats pissing you off the most? (Cant say the virus 🙂 )

The virus brought me some good stuff actually – I found myself very creative being at home all day with all this time to compose new stuff. Racism is what is pissing me off the most by far.

I hear you have a new single brewing, what can you tell us about it?

The idea was to talk about determination. About seeing the positive aspect of a situation, about keeping going. I thought of those lyrics while I was doing my work out. So, I naturally thought later on that it could be a good idea for the video, and here we are!

Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?

Yes, I am currently working on my next album, it’s almost ready. It should be out next Fall. In the meantime, we’ll be releasing 2 new songs and videos. Also, since the lockdown I am posting funny short songs on social media every week.
